CHOC-O-HOLIC

There is more to the relationship between chocolate and beer than tastes and indulgences, both being prehistoric from an ancient past. It is impossible to know which came first but here we present these two fermented foods in a modern relationship, designed to last until the last drop.

Sirene Chocolate Milk Stout, brewed with our deep well aquifer mineral water, malted barley and wheat, Sirene chocolate husks, lactose, hops and yeast.

Dark brown. Sweetish slightly chocolatey aroma. Sweet but thin, touch of chocolate, kind of a simple beer, but it’s not bad.

Bottle from Legacy Liquor, Vancouver
Dark brown color with small head. Aroma of dark bread and light aroma of coffee; roasted flax, impression of vomit. Smooth mouthfeel, quite lean; dry chocolate flavor, ordinary bitterness.
Quite meh.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of dry cocoa and metallic notes. Flavour brings out cocoa notes, vanilla, and some metallic notes. Thin, but nicely flavoured. It's okay.

750 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with almost no head. Aromas of cocoa powder and heavily roasted malts. Dry. Flavors of black coffee and nuts. Somewhat acidic bitter finish.

Very dark body, very modest head that’s gone in an instant. Aroma is of barley swampwater and chocolate from your garbage can. Maybe some boot leather in there, the kind that you dropped that can of paint thinner over a few years back. Flavour is a standard bad stout fare of wateriness with some coffee notes, a bit of chocolate, and just a hint of skunkiness to remind you that it’s a Spinnaker brew. This is another Spinnaker beer that seems to be oh so slightly infected and otherwise substandard in the world of craft beer. Maybe the stuff at their brewpub is better, but either way, I’m not impressed with this brewery.

Bottle - Dark fruit, some roasted malts and some sourness. Muddy opaque brown with no head. A really odd porter, with the odd ingrediants giving in a light roasted flavor, some sourness and oak. Very light body and no bitterness and a bit flat. Could be a bad bottle.

My bottle says Porter, not Sweet Stout Black, fast fading tan head.Vinous choc/brn sugar nose.Palate of dry malt/light choc, red wine.Thin and watery. A poor effort
