A big and malty amber ale brewed to keep you warm through the long, dark days of west coast winter. This complex ale has vanilla and treacle undertones, with a warm and spicy finish. This beer is best enjoyed when only partially chilled.

A very nice orange amber color. Aroma is quite subtle, and faint, there is some candied fruit, and caramel, and a touch of english hops, but not much more, it’s quite muted. The flavor is nice! I"m getting some orange peel, candied fruit, sweet malts, and sweet grains, and a nice english hop finish. I really enjoyed this.

330ml bottle. (6.0% ABV) Pours a clear red-amber with a medium, creamy, long lasting, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, vanilla, molasses, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, molasses, dried fruit, orange peel, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg with warming booze in a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

Draft - Caramel malts with some spice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Amber with a thin white head. Hops, spice and alcohol with a brown sugar backbone. Very different than most winter ales, but has hit most of my buttons. Orange peel and a it of booze in the finish. Well done.

This is the 2016/2017 winter edition, the ABV went down again. It's interesting to note how the malt character is similar to the Thor's Hammer, but obviously applied to a weaker brew; the spices are very mild, almost forgotten. Maybe I have less appreciation for this kind of beers nowadays, but it's still a good beer.

Dark amber color; creamy head. The aroma is mild, some caramel, maybe soapy, later some perfumy hops too. Correct body strength, with some malt and dark caramel flavor, hints of spices, warming alcohol; the bitterness in the end is a bit disturbing, high; it also has a very light metallic finish. Balanced, quite good.

2011-03-05, draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, as Red Racer Winter Ale Spiced Reserve Ale, 7-4-7-4-14=36
Cloudy red-amber color; creamy head. Aroma of malt, caramel, lightly spicy. Too much carbonation; malt flavor, with biscuity tones and a touch of spice; correct bitterness, and hopping of good quality. Balanced.

355mL can, pours a clear copper with an off-white head. Cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose. Flavour is the same with vanilla. Not bad.

Hazy amber-red. Thin head, but nice lacing. Has a caramelly malt aroma. Taste is caramelly and lightly spicy/herbal. Finishes w rosemary and other spice. Lots of caramel and light alcohol. Seems fuller and tastier than in past years.

smells malty and with alcohol, some of that artificial-ness flavouring but not so bad. Looks pretty good, okay head. Taste is a little heavy on the syrup and alcohol but also a good mix of grains and sweetness with a medium finish. However, this one doesn’t stand out.
