Draught No head left, jet-black beer. Treacle, toffee nose, bit of rust, breadcrust. More of the same in the oral cavity. Noted that the sweetness is quite kept in check. Roast, coffee, black syrup, but not sugary. Alcoholburn, bit -thinning. Very oily to viscous. Not special, if quite OK.

Bottle received from MiP as a gift for my 45th birthday. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with mild touches of lactose and hints of dried fruit. Bitter, roasty flavour, with sweet notes of lactose, yeast and malt, and touches of liquorice. Bitter, roasty aftertaste with estery and lactic notes. A nice one. Thank you, my friend!

Bottle, 10.5%. Fruity aroma, salty and roasted. Black colour. Small light brown head. The flavour has a good sweet liquorice note. Creamy mouthfeel. The finish also has caramelly and sweetish liquorice. Flavourful and mellow.

On tap. Pours an opaque black with a lacing beige head. Sweet licorice aroma. Rich, sweet body, sweet roast, not entirely clean, some slight fermentation errors but nothing that spoils the fun. Sweet, warming finish. 300323

Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2017, day one - London. Pours oily black-brown with a creamy, light brown head. The nose holds roasted malts, tangy dark malts. Light to medium sweet flavour with strong ashy roast, dark berries. Medium bodied, oily, with soft carbonation. Lightly warming finish. So so overall.
