Brasserie de Silly has taken their signature Silly Sour and taken it to a whole new level. Completely unblended Sour ale, this beer lacks the 13-15% saison normally blended into Silly Sour. The result is a deep garnet colored beer with aromas of tart cherries and raspberries. The intial taste is puckeringly sour with a soft sweet undertone and a thick lactic acid heavy mouthfeel. While the finish is not cloying, it lingers more than its original version. 5.5% ABV

Keg at Yard House Houston. It pours deep brown with an off-white head. The aroma is rich, vinous, dried berry, jammy fruits and candy. The taste is crisp, veryvtart upfront, good mouth - pucker, vinous, cranberry, sour strawberry, big raspberry character, jammy, damp wood and loads of sour candy. Finishes pretty dry and woody. Given how tart it is initially I was worried that it would also be acidic, thankfully not. Good fun.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/4/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear ruby red/copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of sour cherry, plum, lemon, grapefruit, orange zest, green apple, red grape, brown sugar, light caramel, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light pepper, light red wine vinegar, light leather, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak, and moderate dark malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big sour cherry, plum, lemon, grapefruit, orange zest, green apple, red grape, brown sugar, light caramel, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light pepper, light red wine vinegar, light leather, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate amount of acidic/tannic tartness and peppery spice on the finish; with lingering notes of sour cherry, plum, lemon, grapefruit, orange zest, green apple, red grape, brown sugar, toasted oak, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak, and moderate dark malt flavors; with a nice malt/acidity/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately acidic, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent unblended Flanders red Lambic style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, oak, and moderate dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on with the balanced acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Pours a dark ruby brown with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is strong vinegar, wood, grape. Thin mouth, very sour, grape, vinegar, cherries, really good.

A hazed brown sour ale with a very thin off white head. In aroma, sweet cherry malt with light chinotto overtones, light candy sugar, OK. In mouth, a rather sour lambic with a thin body, sharp acidity attack followed by sweet fruity notes, somewhat unsatisfying. On tap at Gnarly Barley.

On tap at Toronado Seattle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small tan head. Aroma is burnt, with feet, burnt notes and wood. Flavour brings out oranges, burnt notes and wood. Strange beer, full of oddly complementing notes. Finishes acidic. Nice stuff.
