Leinenkugel’s winter seasonal, Bavarian Style Dunkel, is a medium bodied dark lager brewed with notes of cocoa, toasted malt and mild winter spices that blend perfectly with a hint of berries. Its rich taste and clean finish make it a great addition to a winter’s day spent cozying up by a fire.

This review was imported from my RateBeer ratings.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown (almost black), with a dingy tan head that dissipates somewhat quickly. Strong scents of chocolate and caramel, with undertones of peanut butter. Taste is medium-sweet with flavors of unsweetened chocolate and herbal hops. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and a thin texture. Finish is slightly astringent and fades fairly quickly.

Overall, not too bad. I just wish the chocolate flavor was a bit stronger and the finish was a little sweeter.

Pour is a very dark brown with a large creamy tan head. Aroma is a decent toasted and cocoa malt. Smells like a brown ale. Flavor is and a nice helping of cocoa a rich malt and some bitter bakers chcocolate towards the end of the swallow. The label said there is fruit added but I did not get anything noticable. This was a pretty solid dunkel, lots of rich malt flavor without being watery.

Clear dark ruby color with a beige head and decent retention. Minimal lacing. Smooth, clean and semi-creamy mouthfeel. Taste is smokey and roasted malts. Good stuff!

I thought this was OK. Appearance and palate is right and the flavors are traditional and standard, even if not the best example of the style, which I tend to believe is done better by the Czechs.Dark brown color with a bright red when held up to the light. Roasted malt, a good amount of sugar. Hop presence is there but minimal. One of Miller’s better beers I would say.

Screw top bottle. From start I think this may be the notorious maple version Leinenkugel Maple Dunkel. It is sweeter with maple or sweeter influx almost bordering on cloying but never quite gets there. Comes back to the typical cool dunkel.....Yes, friendly porter stout mild influences mixed with a tad of that milk stout feel. On par for a dunkel, but could be little more civilized to match or compete with anything like Anderson Valley El Steinber Dark Lager Weeping Radish Black Radish Dark Lager Penn Dark Angel City Dunkel Brewtus Grifter 0r even Obolon Oksamitove (Velvet)

Bottle: Dark brown, with a short, creamy, pinkish/tan head. Chocolate/dark berry, cola aroma. Taste is roasty chocolate malt, sweet.....lightly smoky caramel malt, dark fruit. Light....but pretty tasty.
