Why does this beer have a first name? Because we want to commemorate a very special person who is inextricably linked to our brewery. The Sailer family's story at Hofbräuhaus Traunstein began with Josef Sailer in 1896, a story we continue to this day.
Not least with this harmonious, mild, pale bock beer, whose light caramel and delicate hop notes define its harmonious character.
This historic beer has been brewed in our house again since 2014 and has since found numerous fans. Like its darker, sister bock beer, "Maximilian," "Josef" is a truly enjoyable beer with a craft beer character and the ideal accompaniment to good food.

Hofbräuhaus Traunstein Oh, du mein Josef, Fläschchen aus dem Fastenzeit-Bierpaket vom Biershop Bayern. - Satt goldgelb, klar. - In der Nase breit getreidiges helles Malz, Honig, Trockenaprikosen, Wiesenkräuter. - Antrunk bocktypisch satt getreidig-hellmalzig mit voller Honigsüße, leicht karamellig, aber auch von Anfang an starke krautige Bittere mit stumpfer Grapefruitschale. Milder rezent, vollmundig, ungewöhnlich trocken bzw. hart im Mund. Im Abgang schroffe krautige und zart holzige Herbe. - Kernig malziger, kräftig aber unrund gehopfter, trockener Bock. Anfangs etwas hart zu trinken - aber man gewöhnt sich daran!

Thanks to Beerhunter111. 330 ml. bottle sampled waiting for Billie’s Beer Festival 2018. Oh lord that name and label, yikes. Clear golden, big soapy. Nose is banana, plastic, sweet DE basic plastic sweet. Fake sweet banana, plastic, sugar, banana, fake & sweet, industrial taste, meh.

Bottle shared with 77ships and beerhunter111 in queue for Billies 2018. Super clear golden color, medium to full sized white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, grainy, grainy bitter, but aldo slight sweet notes. Ok.

33cl bottle shared at the Line at Billie's. A clear pale golden beer with a mid sized good lasting white head. Aroma of moderate strong grainy malt, straw. Taste of strong grainy malt, straw, sweet breadish malt, low bitterness.

Flascherl: Pale golden, small and stable white formy layer; mild traces of sweet honey in the drier bitter-sweet herbal-grainy nose moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, a bit tart and tannic; mild traces of alcohol in the tart and bitter herbal-grainy finish. Unusual dry Bock, not my favourite...

(bottle, 33cl) Minimally hazy, golden colour with a blond and firm mid-sized foamy head. Biscuity strawy malty aroma with notes of dough, traces of honey and flowery hops. Moderately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a soft, if not tame carbonation. Strawy malt character with notes of biscuits, dough and cereals, accompanied by a delicately floral hoppy touch towards the moderately sweet and honey-fruity finish. The alcohol is well-hidden. 28.IV.18

From the tap at Mercato Europeo, in Rimini, Italy. Pours crisp intense gold with limited foam. Aroma is bready, hoppy and malty. Body is average, insisting carbonation. Taste is set at first, but soon overcome by bitterness. Finish is not pleasant with leading strange bitterness.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Clear yellow-golden, off-white head. Clean and smooth pale lager aroma - white bread, malts and cereals, light grassy hops. The taste follows the aroma. Super smooth and perfectly clean. Would be nice to have more hops, but a pale lager malt base can’t get cleaner than that. Good.
