Taster at the tap house. Oh, yes, it has a big nose of peppermint and chocolate, more of that than anything smelling like a beer but tis the season. Dark, almost solid color even in my small taster glass, with a creamy foam that looks like a nitro pour. Just tasting the foam offers a note of chocolate covered tart cherry. When I sip the beer itself, I feel like I’m pouring melted chocolate and candy cane down my throat. It would be very hard for the taste to live up to the promise of the minty bouquet, but the palate is where it gets back to the business of being a beer. Well recommended holiday party brew.

Draft. Mahogany beer with a tan head. Light roasted malt aroma. Big peppermint flavor with light chocolate. Medium bodied. Big peppermint lingers. Ends fairly refreshing.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, peppermint, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, light coffee/smoke/nuttiness, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and peppermint leaf notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, peppermint, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, light coffee/smoke/nuttiness, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, peppermint, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and peppermint leaf flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate cooling peppermint notes on the finish that slightly build through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with, minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice peppermint porter style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and peppermint leaf flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle: Brown-purple, with a quick, medium-tan head. Peppermint, chocolate aroma....nicely understated. Flavour is the same....not overdone, very pleasant peppermint notes over dark chocolate and caramel malt. Relaxing..and just enough peppermint nip to it. Tasty.

22oz bomber. 2014 bottle opened Spring of 2015. Deep brown-black amber body. Thick chocolate, mint tone tones. Definitely not a go to session beer, but as Ann notes, this would be a good Christmas beer. Pretty good for what it is..a straight up peppermint porter. Well done, and stands the test of time...bonus points!

On tap at Stub & Herbs. Pours a deep amber brown with a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma combines dark bread, dark grains and roasted malts with a bit of a peppermint bite. Flavor has dark grains and a bit of smoke with just a hint of peppermint.

On draught at Spacebar. The beer is brownish-black with mahogany around the edges and a medium tan head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and peppermint. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and subtle refreshing peppermint. The finish is malty up front with a mild peppermint aftertaste. Decent overall.

Excited to try this one but it made me sad. Peppermint not noticeable at all. Coffee and chocolate mainly, but watery even so. Meh.
