Crafting delicious beer doesn’t start with ingredients. It starts with exploration. Back in the 90s, our constant need to experiment with culinary ingredients was considered heresy by some. But it was the passion and the constant trial and error that led to pure alchemy, and we began brewing with real fruit pulled from our brewpub kitchen. Made with sweet apricots, Aprihop blazed the trail as one of the first fruit-infused IPAs.

That ongoing journey continues today with Flesh & Blood IPA. We could save time and money by brewing with fruit extracts. But for us, authenticity counts. And when we say we brew with real fruit, we mean it.

“One of the first to experiment with fruit-infused IPAs… the result of 20 years of delicious R&D.” -Food & Wine

Brewed with mouth-puckering lemon flesh, sweet orange peel and blood orange juice, Flesh & Blood balances the resinous hoppy characteristics of an American IPA with the explosive zesty fruitiness and subtle drying tartness of citrus to deliver a highly quaffable ale that’s incredibly unique and lovely to down the whole year round.

Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a dark orange color with a huge fluffy orange-white head that lingered forever and left excellent lacing. The aroma was funky with cat pee and a bit of orange. The flavor was sweet and funky with cat pee and orange. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Not good.

Train beer. Heading to the Flyers game. The Speta guy just asked me if I was drinking a beer. Told him it was a coffee. He said I hope so.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Clear reddish copper, like a new penny, thin fizzy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of orange, tangerine, lime, pale malt. The taste is pale malt, a bit of a biscuity note, strong orange and tangerine, bits of lime. Medium bodied, juicy.

I tried a bottle because of another beer I really enjoy that features blood orange. Unfortunately I didn’t care for how it was used here. The fruit overwhelmed my palate until fading halfway through the beer when a pleasing bitterness kicked in to save the beer.

Bottle. Clear amber body with a fizzy, off-white head. Aroma of toasted grain, lemon, orange peel, citrus, light grapefruit. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, moderate carbonation. Thick, citrusy and lightly tart. With a hint of bitter resin in the finish.

Clear copper and light ruby tinted body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, grain, light malt, some alcohol and a bit more grassy and floral notes of hops. Medium-bodied; Assertive citrus flavours of oranges and grapefruits with a nice and balanced malt body, that leaves the palate strong with bittering hops and moreso of citrus sweetness and a slight bitterness. Aftertaste shows some grain, a bit of caster sugar, light citrus flavours and a very subdued but noticeable bitterness from the hops, but in a passing way. Overall, a decent citrus-based IPA with some good flavours and a smooth complexity, but no real bitterness or punch that you’d expect from either - a citrus-based fruit beer or a ’real’ IPA. About what you expect from DFH over the past ~10 years. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 26-November-2016 for US$2,29 sampled at home in Washington on 12-December-2016.
