Giant notes of Rye accented by subtle citrus undertones. An interesting combination of barley, hops, and rye. Smells like weed, but there isn't any...sorry. Compared with other Brown Rye IPA's in the market, this rye will give you a lingering spice-like effect that will stick to your palate. 2015 Silver Medal Winner for Best Rye Beer at the Great American Beer Festival®.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep red brown with a light tan head. Malty aroma hinting at cocoa and molasses, with some grassy hops. Flavor is toasty malt and rye flavor, some grassy hops, touches of pine and grapefruit, with a definite bitterness to it. Not sure how old the bottle is, but it's pretty good, really.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of rye, with some bread and a decent amount of pine biter. Flavor has a nice pine bitterness with some earthy rye and a dark bread note underlying.

Draft pint with a meal. Darker than an IPA, almost dark enough to be a porter. I had to remind myself again that it’s an IPA when it hit my palate. The rye and dark roast really mellows the hops. Smooth, good.

Dark brown coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of rye, a bit of grain and a small amount of earthy and floral hops. Medium-bodied; Nice pungent hops up front with a grassy and floral bite then showing some excellent malt balance by the toasted malt and grain. Aftertaste shows a smooth balance, a good dose of bittering hops and some more floral and fragrant complexities at the end. Overall, a nice and relatively pungent beer with some nice flavours and a smooth but noticeable complexity. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan yesterday on 10-December-2016 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Dearborn, Michigan on 11-December-2016.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/15/2015. Pours clear very dark brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted brown bread, light chocolate/cocoa/coffee, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and dark/roast/rye bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted brown bread, light chocolate/cocoa, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness and rye spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, spicy rye, toasted brown bread, light roast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and dark/roast/rye bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop/rye flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and baody; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/bready/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Brown IPA style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and dark/roast/rye bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. The hop notes came off a bit weird against the malt character at first; but after I got used to them, they turned out very well balanced and delicious. I think this could be better with an adjusted hop bill, but it was still very enjoyable.

tap at the brewery - Pours dark brown and smells of rye and citrus hops. It has good, crisp bitterness in the flavor with some rye character. Medium bodied and rather nice overall.
