Zwart bier met mooie stevige bruine schuimkraag. Smaak is licht zoet en bitter met iets van koffie, bittere chocolade en wat rook. Verder sporen van noten te ontdekken.

Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, roastyness, chocolate, coffee, vanilla notes, light sweet and sourish notes, medium to high bitter. Full body, malty chocolate bitter finish. Good.

Botlte @ Burspraks Blindtasting. Pours pitch black with a medium brown head. Aromas of peat, tobacco, dark chocolate, burned sugar, toast. Taste is light peat, roasted malts, bitter dark chocolate, burned sugar. This was weird...

I'm ashamed that I apparently haven't had this beer since 2010 or so (when I started on RB). High time for a re-evaluation. Bottled on 08/08/18. Pours a jet black colour and a firm brown head with a thin layer retention. Aroma's: hard roasted malts, umami, ground coffee, dark chocolate (of at least 90% cocoa). Retronasal it's sweetish, roasted, red fruit, chocolate. Flavour is light moderate sweet and moderate roasted bitter, moccha-ish. Above medium bodied. Long finish with big roast, dark chocolate and moderate bitterness. Still lives up to its reputation. --- Beer merged from original tick of Hel & Verdoemenis (Hell & Damnation) on 27 Jun 2017 at 16:13 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Original review text: Apparently a long time ago since I had the regular version, because I never rated it. Fairly fresh bottle. Pitch black color. dense brown head with some retention. Aroma’s: hard roasted malts, ground coffee, along with light sweetness and light red fruit retronasal. Flavor is light sweet, with roasted bitterness, dark chocolate. Over medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Long finish with lots of roast and fairly bitter. Classic stuff.

Corked bottle, straight from the brewer’s new warehouse, so no label. Aroma has creamy chocolate, cacao, loads of malt and a hint of licorice. The flavor has raisin and other dried fruits, coffee, cacao, milk chocolate and hints of licorice and cardemom. Thick mouthfeel, immensely dense and full bodied. The alcohol is there, but well hidden. Magnificent, complex, warm and tasty beer.

Black beer, thick brown head. Smells of toasty malt and anise. Tastes of coffee, bitter chocolate, toasted malts, liquorice. Very dry, very sharp but really rich. A sipper but very nice.

Bottled in March 2014. Black, with no head and lots of floaters. The nose is coffee, walnuts, cherries, licorice, and some soy. Sweet and roasty, with a bit of a funky finish. Thick and quite astringent. Hasn't aged gracefully... this is what I get when I buy off the bargain shelf, but for $3 it ain't bad!
