A big bodied stout that receives its distinguishable flavor characteristics from the substantial use of roasted malt, dark specialty grains, and ground carob. Cocoa and chocolate-like aromas penetrate from the black depths of this alluring ale. Robust flavors of roasted black coffee, and even subtle notes of dark fruit, mix with the abundant rich chocolate qualities. As it warms, an ample bitterness from the dark roasted specialty grains and high alpha hops intensifies, provoking a noticeable dryness on the palate.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/6/2015. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toast, dark bread, char, light smoke, light dark fruits, herbal, light pine, and roast/char earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, carob, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toast, dark bread, char, light smoke, herbal, pine, light dark fruit, and roast/char earthiness. Large amount of pine/roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toast, dark bread, char, light smoke, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, carob, and earthy hop flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. A fair amount of dryness on the finish as well. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice hoppy stout style. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt, carob, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft. Chocolate malt and hay aroma. Dark brown with small head. Sweet chocolate malt followed by strong bitter herbal/hay finish. Nice blending. Very tasty.
