JosephsBrau Dunkelweizen is an unfiltered wheat beer brewed with dark roasted malted wheat and caramelized malted wheat in addition to pale malted barley. The complex flavors produced by the Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast strain are enhanced by the roasted flavors from the dark malts. 5.2% alcohol by volume, 18 bitterness units.

Hazy dark amber colour. Light banana in the nose. Flavour has banana and yeast with a touch of caramel sweetness.

From a 12 oz bottle poured at home. Pours a an unfiltered cider brown with no head. Aroma of raisins and whole wheat toast. Some caramel and sour notes. Light carbonation. Malty finish.

Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a medium off-white head that dissipates quickly with no lacing. Aroma is wheat, roasted malts. Flavor is medium sweet wheat, bread, roasted malt, perhaps a bit of banana. Very weak bitter finish. A bit fizzy in the mouth. Overall not a bad beer at all.

Bottle. Strong ripe banana, clove, and toffee malt. Cloudy brown color with small head. Sweet banana, light clove and stale wheat malt flavor. Not bad but think this bottle was a bit past it’s prime.

labeled Trader Joes, pours light amber with a thin off white head that stays the length of the glass. Nice caramel nose, big banana esters as well. Flavor is solid, nice sweet caramel, buck wheat and big banana in the finish. Solid stuff.

Bottle courtesy of Jetson. Thanks bro! Reddish brown appearance with a cream colored head. Toasty wheat, banana, clove, dark malty, wheat, bubblegum aroma. Toasty wheat malty, bubblegum, banana, clove, yeasty flavor. Sweet malty, banana aftertaste. Big on the phenols. Not bad.

bottle - Pours hazy amber with a long lasting white head. It smells of wheat, bananas, and yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of citrus, banana, and spice. It’s a little watery, but other than that is pretty good.

Picked this one up at the local Trader Joes - 12 oz bottles. Poured a dark amber color, medium sized white head. Aroma was banana, wheat, yeast, sweet sugary malts. Flavor was sweet and bold malts.

Bottle. Pours a muddy, purple-brown with a thin, filmy off-white head. Nice wheat aroma with some clove and light fruit. Sweet flavor with wheat and yeast, along with banana, bready malts, and some oily caramel. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with sweet, buttery caramel and fruity wheat. Really good.

Banana bread crust and clove nose. Murky ochre, thin yellow head. Same banana bread flavor, but with tart malt instead of clove. Quite a bready dunkelweizen! Banana pudding finish. Probably not highly rated because of the name and the biases some people have, but I like this. I don’t usually look at the RB score before rating. Kudos JB/GB!
