We’ve teamed up with Hair of the Dog Brewing Company to bring you another artistic collage of cask-aging alchemy. This encore collaboration delivers layers of vanilla, caramel and molasses with roasted accents and complex malt character. This second version magically blends The Abyss (100% aged in Pinot barrels) and The Stoic (100% aged in Pinot barrels) with Hair of the Dog’s Fred (aged in American oak and rye whiskey barrels) and Doggie Claws (100% aged in cognac barrels).

Taster showing dark amber with no head. The nose shows moderately intense notes of dark roasted caramel and malt. The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Lightly sweet with caramel malts.

(650ml bottle shared @ Nische's tasting, thanks Werckmeister!) Pours clear dark mahogany with a tight tan head. Notes of rich dark caramel with light molasses holding some vanilla, raisins, vinous barrel notes, toast, soft bourbon, a little nutty roast, drying wood, tobacco, rather sweet through the sip but drying slightly in the finish where the multiple barrels shine through with tannin, bourbon, light toast and a hint of alcohol heat. Medium-full oily body with soft carbonation. More complex than I think my notes convey, and very balanced feel; I like this blend a lot and appreciate it wasn't a bourbon bomb like many a BA strong ale.
