A smooth malty offering, amber in color, and low on hop bitterness. Beltaine is a festival held every spring with patrons running throught fire and taking some embers home for the hearth.

Bottle. Muddy brown body. Fizzy off-white head. Aroma of dirty peat, roasted malts, caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Thin to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Strong peat and smoke flavors, raw, leafy hops, but the flavors, what few are there, are muddled. Watery for the a Scottish ale. Slight metallic notes round out this forgettable beer.

draft - Pours dark with a light malty aroma and a thin head. The flavor is very malty, but has a good hops balance as well. The body is on the thin side for the style and is lightly carbonated.

Sample taste from growler at Chicago Beer Society meeting & Randy Mosher birthday party, Dec. 1. More hastily scribbled notes from the tail end of a homebrew club meeting! Let’s see... I wrote "Still yeasty but nicely peated - proper color — pours light head." Well, I do remember liking this quite a lot for being, yes, a good standard ale of indeterminate shillings. I will have to work on a trip to Lighthouse Place so I have an excuse to visit, cause if I’m going to Michigan, I’m saving my beer money for Bell’s or New Holland...
