Aye, Aye Captain!

33cl can. A very dark brown beer with a beige head. Aroma of strong riped fruits, raisins, caramel, wood. Taste of strong caramelized malt, vanilla, caramel sauce, toffee.

Super strong stout by het Uiltje, with a pirate theme no doubt referring to the rum barrel treatment; also contains raisins, something you do not see often (as such) in any beer. Thanks to Craftmember for sharing the can! Mousy, dense, creamy, regularly edged, slowly opening but generally stable head on a black beer with thin burgundy edges. Intense bouquet of rum-soaked raisins indeed and very strongly so, Belgian chocolates, toffee, vanilla-scenting wet oak wood, almond, fresh dates, treacle, honey, light sweet red apple note, coffee liqueur, brandy. Sweet, sugary onset, stewed pear, plum candy and fig compote with candi syrup 'darkness' on top, softish carb, very full creamy and syrupy body (as can be expected of a 14+% ABV stout). Full-blown hazelnutty, dark-chocolatey, toffeeish maltiness weighs heavily on the tongue, but is somehow enlightened by a soft but still pungent, dense sweet-sourish raisin aspect with a grapey character to it (in a 'candied' way); lots of 'oaky vanilla' in the end as well as actual vanilla, highlighted by a hot rum-like alcohol glow. Lots of malty chocolateyness remains after that. Absolutely delicious - I cannot imagine raisins being integrated in a supercharged imperial stout in any better way. Uiltje has done some great - and indeed world class - stouts before, this one for me can certainly join the ranks of those. Impressed.
