To the eye, an intense brown beer, with bright glints and creamy foam.
On the nose, woody notes and delicate hints of pears as well as plums.
On the palate, the barrel-ageing provides bread crust, roasting and smoky aromas, enhanced by a touch of honey and vanilla.

From the bottle. Pours dark with a foamy head that soon thins to a lingering, frothy layer. Aroma of barrel with mild spice and candied sugar. Taste is mildly sweet, full of vanilla, dark fruits, wood and whiskey. Body is medium, carbonation is quite high, and I prefer to let it bleed out a bit. Probably should have cellared it for a year or two but was too damned impatient. Good stuff.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Clear mahogany colour, small head. Aroma of pears and marzipan with some peat. Sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Marzipan, brown sugar and caramel. Mild calvados-like heat.

Smell of apple, malt, spices. Deep bronze colour, brown head. Aroma of malt, caramel, alcohol, oak, some whisky and tannines.Very sweet. Lively carbon. A bit too sweet, actually.

Very dark brown with thin head. Aroma and flavour are very much of the original Chimay with it's almost dusty sweet yeast. The whisky barrel gives light vanilla notes and a touch of dryness.

Bottle at share, courtesy of Toby. Chimay was always one of my go-to Bears when I first started drinking craft beer. So I've been looking for this one for a while. And the barrels have just done wonders with an already fine beer. Woody Smoky notes compliment the Grand Reserve. Just a beautiful addition to this already world-class beer

Bottle thanks to Toby pours out crisp copper rust color topped with a sand head. Nose is great bread pit fruit belg candy sugar spice some barrel. Taste is more of the sweet belg candy spice pit fruit and barrel.

Dark brown colour, beige foam. Very nice aroma of dried fruit, plums, vanilla. Taste is rather sweet, bit alcoholic, dried fruit, wood. Very nice and well balanced. Great beer!

Bottle at a Tasting at Koelschtrinker's place. A clear reddish brown beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramelish malt, red fruits, cinnamon, some ginger. Taste of raisins, dark reddish malt, caramel, red fruits.
