On tap at Chester Station Tap. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma is subdued – just hints of malts and caramel. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but also slightly watery. Flavour is basically roasted malts, but with hints of ginger and (later) liquorice and vanilla. A little bitterness in the dry finish. This is decent.

Two 330ml glasses, draught at Cafe Sånn. Deep black body, covering beige head, scattered lacing. Nicely roasted dark malty aromas. Dark malt-forward taste with black chocolate, hints of dark bread, and a note of liquorice. Rounded, slightly roasted malty tail. Drinks very well. In friendly company with Haakon. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, ashes, roasted grain, dark bread and a balanced coffee/cacao bitterness. Medium body, dry. Classic dry Irish stout. Nice one.

Keg draught at Brighton Bierhaus. Mid- to dark chocolate brown, translucent with a tight beige head. Light aroma of chocolate, a little bit of hazelnut, touch of oak. The taste is mostly sweet with some bitterness, with flavours of liquorice and milk chocolate. Long finish is fairly bitter. Soft body with medium carbonation. Really good but a trifle timid.
