Complex, full bodied, warming, malty and fruity with additional nutty and caramel flavours. A beer to sip and savour. This is our take on the strong beers pioneered by the Belgian Trappist monastery-breweries. Tripels are strong, complex beers and are traditionally golden in colour. We decided to make ours red and the malts used to achieve this add even more complexity to the flavours on the palate.

Nose is malt, nut, spice, caramel. Taste is fruity, almost jammy, sweet caramel, brown sugar, fruity esters, lots of banana and a hint of bubble gum a little bit of dough, light spice.

330ml bottle at home. Pours slightly hazy light red with a medium to large off white tight- bubbled head. Nose is Belgian sugar, slightly sour fruit, maybe a caramel note. Flavour is caramel, sour red fruit, white sugar. High carbonation.

Really clear, finely carbonated red-copper beer under a good off-white head. Very toasted nose, toasted caramel, caramel malt, maybe some Vienna. Parsley, heated garden herbs. Caramel in the taste, if in a dry way, herbal malts. Still toast, but less imposing as the nose suggested. Light body, low to medium carbonation; bit slick, oily feel. Trying to marry Belgian tripel to Irish red (a style invented by French Pelforth brewery, according to Martyn Cornell)? Not bad, neither special.

Hazy deep amber colour, good creamy off-white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma sweet malt, red fruit, caramel, alcohol and spicy notes. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, malty, ripe red fruit, toffee, brown sugar, alcohol notes, hint of banana. Sweetbitter aftertaste, peppery on the tongue. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, not your usual triple, tasty, very nice.

Bottled, from Dicey Reillys, Ballyshannon. Hazy deep amber, rich firm head. Floral, toasty nose. Mid sweet with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and brown sugar. Peppery with some saccharine. Bread and sugar. Low bitterness.
