Thanks to the SamuriaArtist. I was really looking forward to this, especially after having some great Strong Hefe (Vitus and and the Schneider/Brooklyn). This however, I cannot stand too much. For a hefe there is no esters, no bublbegum, WTF!!! Smells like a cheap lager with no sweetness (again what kind of hefe beer is this), very mineral and cheap sugar corn thing. Taste is just plain faint yeasty dough. I really hate this beer for making me excited and sticking something completely messed up in front of me. The only positive thing about this beer is its appearance; so dark yellow starting to look orange and no clarity in it because it is so thick. Small head.
22oz bottle, La Trappe goblet glass.

Draft. Hazy orange amber beer with a nice whitish head. Yeasty, spicy aroma. Yeasty, spicy, malty flavor with some wheat and a very little bit of fruit. Medium body. LIngering yeast, malt, wheat. Not as wheaty as I thought it’d be.

Draught chalice at Redbones on 10/14/07
Small, creamy, white head atop a moderately hazy golden-tangerine. Retention and lacing are moderate to poor.
To my great pleasure, it’s not a mess of clovey-banana in the nose and is actually fairly well balanced between soft bubble gum esters and even a touch of grassy hops, that hold the white pepper-like phenols at bay and deepen the complexity, giving it more than just a straightforward spiciness. Malts are moderately sweet, but you can sense a good deal of attenuation in them, and the sweetness seems fairly well-polished. On the finish, it gets a little bready, however, with some yeast doughiness shortening the aromatics and clove and light alcohol cutting through what was previously a more soft, round nose. I’m not sure the aroma gains anything from its "Imperial" nature, as I’ve had plenty of regular, low-to-mid gravity weizens that are both more complex and more enjoyable in the nose, but at least, it’s not nefariously laden with alcohol, nor is it too sweet.
Bready, almost crusty malts display a cracked wheat-like robustness that challenges the palate, as citrus, bubble gum and sweet honey notes soften the blow. Citrus is drawn out in to the finish, with a lemon-like acidity that is joined by light alcohol warmth and dryness. Carbonation is low to moderate, neither improving nor reducing the body, which is manageably well-attenuated for its gravity. Soft, doughy texture loses its effect on the finish, somewhat, as the alcohol cuts through. Bananas and clove present, but not overdone.

Draught, Pyramid Alehouse Seattle
Extra cloudy. Dull beige. Banana and alcohol on the nose. Firm alcoholic character, light banana fruitiness, and lots of malt. Still manages to retain drinkability despite its size. A fairly well-executed rendition of a silly concept.

Wheaty aroma, arguably with floral/citrus. Hazy ripe apricot color with a white head that ringed. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor starts with a little citrus sour, followed by wheat, and a slight amount of bitter. Not finding banana. The finish is pretty dry, and it seems to be floral and citrus hop. A really nice ale, but not a German style hefe. Anybody disagrees, let me know. I can always use education.

Bottle: Pours a dark yellow/golden color with a rich haziness. Thick white head and lots of lacing. Aroma of wheat and hops, bits of maltiness. Tastes crisp with hops, light wheat notes, and bits of citrus. Ever so slight amounts of bananas. Nice hefe from Pyramid.

Draft at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland. An unclear golden beer with a lazing white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wheat, malt, and oranges. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of wheat, orange, and light notes of banana, leading to a dry wheaty finish. The body is so light - that I’d never think it was 7.5% ABV - my guess would be around 4%.

Pours a cloudy dark orange/yellow color with a medium thick and fluffy white head that has good retention. Patches of lacing on the glass. Wheaty, fruity malt aroma. Medium-bodied with flavors of wheat, banana and spices. More crisp at times than a typical Hefe. Mild hops and alcohol show up at times as well. The finish is round and sweet with yeast and banana, followed by touches of peppery hops. Enjoyable all around.

Bottle pours a cloudy light yellow with a smal quick white head. Malted wheat aroma with a little of the german hef notes. Some citrus as well. Feel was soft and unfilterd. A bit more of the banana and clove flavors would have been good,. Soft carbonation nd a nice tangy trailer.
