True to style, we ferment our Hefe Weiss with a German yeast culture. Don’t be put off by the cloudy appearance that comes from course-filtering—that’s a sign of a Bavarian-style wheat ale. Relax and appreciate the immense creamy head resting atop this lightly hopped ale. Take a sip of refreshing spice, hints of citrus and tropical fruit. The addition of wheat malt creates a mouthfeel smooth as a warm summer breeze.

This brewery tends to do fairly well with german styles, so I like to try their renditions when I get the opportunity - this one is decent - very creamy appearance and texture - on the lighter side for a hefe, so it is quite refreshing - semi-dry and herbal, with some dusty yeast character - only mild phenols in the form of banana and light clove - a wee bit of peppery character, especially on the tail end - lingering spicy, tangy finish - not terribly complex, but decent.

bottle - Pours hazy dark yellow with a thin dissipating head. The aroma is of citrusy yeast, wheat malt, and some good spice. I really like it. If only the taste were as substantial as the aroma. It’s sweet and citrus accented, but also bland and watery. Warming helps some of course, but not enough.

500ml bottle. Cloudy bronze-orange color with a decent foamy head...looks official. Classic hefe-yeast aroma on the clovy side. The taste is creamy and enjoyable, with a smooth sweet banana aftertaste. Spicy and crisp hop balance in the initial mouthfeel. An above par American-Hefe.

Bottle. Aroma of banana with a light touch of clove, and perhaps lemon. Hazy golden color with tiny bubbles and a white head that flattened. Thinnish body with chewy/creamy carbonation. The flavor is banana, touch of lemon and some clove (but it could be yeast spiciness). The finish is dry, a little more banana, and some citrus in the background. Decent hefe.

Hazy yellow color with thin white head. Sweet malt and wheat aroma. I also smell some banana. Very nice Hefe Weiss flavor. Perfect for a hot day like today. Mild sweetness plays against grain flavors. Refreshing sour lemon and hop bitterness bits along the edge of my tongue. Solid beer for the style.

Hazy orange coloured body with blonde coloured highlights and a small white head. Aroma of corn, curacao, coriander seed and honey. Medium-bodied; Light funky wheat flavour up front with some sugars and a bit of ’normal’ tastes. Aftertaste clean from the other flavours with little else-not a strong showing at all! Overall, nice to try-but overall, a bad offering. Stick to some other beers from this brewery and bypass this one. I sampled this 16 ounce bottle purchased from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York on 10-July-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Draft, served at the Berghoff, no less, in Chicago. A good thin hefe head with a nice lace. Body is suitably cloudy, like a lemon peel. Nice spice and lemon notes, or maybe that was the smell of the lemon slice they stuck on it. Still, very clean and refreshing, nothing to jump out and bite you, but an ideal lawnmower beer.

Aroma of wheat and citrus. Cloudy with lots of carbonation. Citrus flavors, and a pleasant mild wheat taste. Not as much spice and fruit aroma/flavor as I would like. Light on the palate and refreshing. Inexpensive for the style; enjoyable.
