This beer is based on an original recipe that Adolphus Busch brought with him when he came to America. This Marzenbeir has a malty aroma and an amber-red color. Traditionally brewed for the Octoberfest [sp] season, this 100% malt beer utilizes only 4 ingredients: malt, yeast, hops and water.

Clear amber body with a medium creamy white head. Sweet malty aroma with some earthy hops. Sweet grassy flavor with a light earthy maltiness. Medium light mouthfeel with moderately high carbonation.

12 oz. bottle, "Born on 04OCT06," tasted 05JUL07. Actually pours a decent Oktoberfest style amber color. Inch-thick head, bigger than the other Michelob "varieties." Thin stream of bubbles from random spots in the glass. I get a malty, yet creamy whiff just from the head. Grainy taste, like there might be a touch of unmalted barley involved. Then a honey-roast malt note. Pinpricks of pepper and German hop bitterness. The usual macro carbonation. Considering how the Germen brauwerken have lightened up their beers, this may stand a chance against them.

Bottle. Slight sweet/diacetyl malt aroma. Dark amber with small head. Lightly sweet malt flavor. LIttle body. Fairly high acidity. Rather bland but decent taste.

Very interesting. Pours dark like a good o’fest but not dark brown. Not as good as Hacker but certainly better than Victory or Sammy. Perhaps a little watery as to not offend anyone but I think the big guys have a secret WMD. Hey, I was rating this as a Marzen! This is ’american dark lager’ by ratebeer.com standards!! Best american dark lager I ever tasted! Better reclassify this as a Marzen or it’s gonna overtake the american dark lager class. Nice unobtrusive finish. Must beer be offensive to be good?

A copper colored beer with a light hint of malt flavor. A small step above a cheap lager. Some carbonation. Not really anything else to say about it; not worth trying.

Another half-hearted attempt at an established style by A-B. Clear brownish amber color with a thin off-white head and nil lacing. The aroma is light malt and caramel. Light-bodied with a sweet malt character. Small nut and caramel flavors as well. The finish is lightly sweet with a bit of hops at the end. Another Reader’s Digest beer that is pretty easy to drink.

Pours is a dirt brown with a fluffy white head. Aroma is somewhat smoky and musty. Flavor is malty and nutty. Of course there are better out there but it is a decent attempt. Comes in the 18 bottle winter sampler.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours medium brown color with no head to speak of. There is a faint malty aroma. The flavor is mildly malty, nutty, and lightly hoppy. There is a bit of a malt aftertaste. Medium body. Somewhat bland but not a terrible attempt considering the source.
