Purchased at Valkyrie Brewing in Dallas WI; enjoyed at a fancy lodge near Chetek, WI. I was blown away that the brewery had bombers of this available for sale, looks like it hasn't been available in quite a while. Appearance is like an old fashioned, burnt amber with a very small white ring. Aroma of molasses, maple syrup, sugar, light cherries. Taste is sweet and tart, light burn going down, syrupy aftertaste. Overall I'm not a huge fan of the style but feel this is an above average barley wine.

Draft at Old Fashioned. Opaque amber-brown color. Thick and chunky. Thin layer of beige head. Lots of pungent funky notes. Raisin, funked out toffee. Could have benefited from some hoppiness, tastes and smells rather devoid. Big and sugary. Pretty sub-par for the style, a beer only a mega-homer could love. Very English feel to it, but also sort of gross.

Bottled. An unclear red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Hazy and opaque orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Sweetish spicy aroma with burned caramel and overripe fruit. Quite full-bodied, a little low in carbonation, plenty of overripe fruit and caramel. No actual bitterness. 201008

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a with a fully diminished off-white head. Smooth fruity and dense aroma. Dense fruity with a solid malty base and a mild wineous note. Ends wineous and smooth.

Bottle (courtesy of JK). Melted caramel, pinetree and alcohol aroma. Cloudy dark brown with small head. Strong alcohol bite initially that quickly fades to a creamy caramel flavor. Strong hops finish. Very interesting brew - strong alcohol and extremely pleasant caramel flavor seem to stay separated.

The first barleywine I have really liked. I aged this for about 9 months. Aromas of wood, sugar, dried fruit. These are also in the flavor with the addition of sweet malt. Lightly hopped. Sweet. Best lightly chilled; too sweet at room temp.
