Dunkles

Gordon Biersch Brewing Company in San Jose, California, United States 🇺🇸

Lager - Dunkel / Tmavý Regular
Score
6.37
ABV: 4.5% IBU: - Ticks: 9
A full-bodied, malty beer. It is our only lager beer served unfiltered, the way all beer was traditionally made years ago. Despite its dark color and rich caramel aroma, Dunkles is light in texture and smooth to drink.

750 Swingtop from Bine and Vine. Pours cola color with a beige head - though with lots of light behind it, it’s dark ruddy copper. Warm dark malt aroma. Med body, maybe. Flavor is lightly chocolate, a little darkly malty. Maybe a bit yeasty in the finish. Not much bitter in it. Enough flavor to make it an interesting beer.

From tap at the brewpub in Palo Alto. Pours hazy dark brown with a small and solid tan head. Aroma is mild vegetable and dark roasted malty. Flavour is dark malty, breaidh and roasted flavoured. Light bitterness and mild acidic roasted note. Dry and dark malty finish. Far from the origins.

Tap. Maple syrup and malt aroma. Medium brown color with small head. Molasses/maple syrup and moderate malt flavor. NIce flavor but like their Weizen, a bit weak. If they could get more body, they’d really have some great beers.

Draught at the brewpub in Las Vegas
Dark amber color. Aroma of caramel. Caramel taste, much more… full and round than a classic German. Not enough hopping.

Dark cola coloured body with a frothy tan head, almost non-existant. Aroma of roasted malt, pit fruit, nuts and some raisins. Medium-bodied; Nice full roasty malt flavour with a good long-lasting pit fruit sweetness. Aftertaste lingers and lasts quite a while. Overall, a good overall dunkel-the best beer from the brewpub and recommended if anyone visits the facility. I sampled this on draught on 29-September-2004 at the brewpub on 9th & F in Washington, D.C.

Reddish dark brown; caramel nose w/ wood, toffee; palate is a little bit watery; light bread crust & toffee in there as well.

Dark yet light-bodied, and I had no problems driking a huge mug of this. Had a nice aftertaste that didn't wear thin. Surprisingly smooth considering there is no filtration involved.
