An annual release taking our flagship beer Modus Operandi which is a blended sour red ale, aged in red wine and bourbon barrels and then re-ageing that blend in more wood for further maturation, building complexity and intensity. The epitome of our barrels store is released each winter, the perfect time to enjoy Beyond Modus.
A masterclass in barrel ageing and blending, Modus Operandi is re-barreled and re-blended annually, taking disparate and distant barrels from the cobwebbed reaches of our barrel library and adding select beers to the mix for something truly transcendent. The complexity gained from the wood as well as the wine previously held in it means Beyond Modus is intriguing and delicious.

Bottle, 750 ml from Že v Redu Primož, shared with JFK10000 and Max. Pours brown with off-white head. Cherries, berries, vinous, some dark fruit, malty, caramel. Light sweetness, moderate+ sourness. Medium bodied.

Bottle 750ml. [ As Wild Beer Beyond Modus IV ].[ Red Wax ] Clear medium to dark brown - red amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, wood, tart, barrel, wineous. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate acidic with a long duration, tart, barrel, berry, caramel, wineous - grapes. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20180414] 7-3-7-3-15

Draft at Neked. Clearish amber maroonish color. Aroma of raisin dates and port wine. Taste is vinous plums and dates, soft sourness with light tartness. Delicious

Sampled draft @ TCBW 2018. Dark red, small tanned head. Nose is cherry pits and vinegar, odd spoiled puckering with sweet cherry on top. Sour cherry pits, fizzy S > T, spoiled cherry, bit thin, not optimal but interesting and nice.

Tap at TCBW 2018, Tallinn. Color is slightly cloudy light brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Dryness, some vineous elements, wood, oak, some dry/ripe fruits and malts. Very interesting.

Bottle split at Bodney, group purchase, 12/04/18. Reddish amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose is tarte red berries, funk, redcurrant tang, fruit balsams, oak, damp hay. Taste comprises pissy red berry must, apple core, grains, funk, oak, wood must, hay bale, acidic rise. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, tangy musty berry encore. Another solid sour from this series.

Bottle @Ulfborg Tasting. Clear brown, small offwhite head. Aroma has dark berries, light sourish funk. Sour flavour, acetic with some rough funk. Not very balanced.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with a lazing yellowish head. The aroma has notes of malt, fruits, ans spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of btett, alcohol, wood, and brettanomyces, leading to a tart finish.
