Double-Aged + Double-Barrelled + Double-Blended 2017

An annual release taking our flagship beer Modus Operandi which is a blended sour red ale, aged in red wine and bourbon barrels and then re-ageing that blend in more wood for further maturation, building complexity and intensity. The epitome of our barrels store is released each winter, the perfect time to enjoy Beyond Modus.

A masterclass in barrel ageing and blending, Modus Operandi is re-barreled and re-blended annually, taking disparate and distant barrels from the cobwebbed reaches of our barrel library and adding select beers to the mix for something truly transcendent. The complexity gained from the wood as well as the wine previously held in it means Beyond Modus is intriguing and delicious.

Bottle shared in Hackney - sourced from the brewery. Pours unclear amber with a foamy, off-white head. Salty berries in the snout, sweat, wood, leather. Light-meidum sweet flavour with strong acetic twang, more leathery berries, salty sweat, mellow woody dryness. Light to medium bodied with massaging carbonation. Tart finish, some lemon juice, alcohol, more vinegar and acetic bite my berries. Excellent.

Bottle. RadBeerCo. Hazy, dark copper colour. Messy, lacing, lasting, beige head. Nose has plum stone. Cherry stone. Sweet balsamic. Port wine. Some raisin. Some red wine dregs. Some rotted wood. Taste is earthy, vinous, and twangy sour. Some vinous bitterness. Medium body. Some acidity. Foamy carbonation. Vinous twang to finish. Nice beer, that could probably get even better, some way down the line.
