Imperial Stout Aged in Brandy Barrels with Roasted Cacao Nibs, Coffee, and Vanilla.

This is a whole new Baptist, of course still Big and Bad, but the big guy is moving on up to also be refined and sophisticated. We took our award-winning Imperial Stout and aged it 100% in Brandy barrels with just a touch of coffee and vanilla. Smoking jacket optional; snifter highly recommended.

2019 22oz bottle drunk 6/28/24. Clear dark. large, well-retained light tan head. Nose has lovely brandy-vanilla with not do lovely green bell pepper from the coffee. Malty, with chewy cacao and low alcohol. Beany coffee and chewy cacao. Unfortunately a spiciness that doesn't belong in the flavor, with overattenuation, thinning and light alcohol. Vanilla is gone, coffee has gone bad, and there's not much brandy, though there is a nice barreled mellowness to the malt. Not really boozey, but a bit bready, lightly oxidized, still quite chocolatey. Tempered rating as this obviously wasn't intended to age this long.

Black, with plenty of tan head. Smell is slightly damp papery, but mostly roast and light coffee. Pretty light body, more than average carbonation. Taste is roasty most of all, with some light coffee. Subtle brandy in the background. Light but tasty.

Bottle shared at the Beau in London tasting, last group tasting for 7 months - who knew, thanks to Dave 11/03/20. Pitch black with a solid tan cap. Nose is chocolate, coffee, roast malts, charr, spice, mellow brandy barrel. Taste comprises chocolate, good coffee vibes, vanilla, light black peppery spice, brandy barrel, roasted bite. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid.

Bottle. (thanks Eddan) Black with a medium tan head. A nice one with a lot of coffee, dark malt, oak and chocolate. The finish was quite long.
