On tap at bier thirty pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is big coffee sweet chocolate vanilla bourbon barrel booze and a touch of hazelnut. Taste is more of the nice sweet chocolate bourbon barrel booze vanilla coffee and a little touch of hazelnut. I was very excited to try this since it was hazelnut, but very light on the hazelnut sadly.

22 ounce bottle, release #2. There's something etched under the abv but I can't read it.
It pours a pitch black with a gorgeous head of tan foam. Lacing is top notch.
Smells of cocoa nibs, coffee vanilla, whiskey, and hazelnut. Why is the hazelnut the least forward?
Cocoa nibs, vanilla, coffee, hazelnut and whiskey taste. At least hazelnut wasn't last in the taste. Lol!. Very smooth.
Mouthfeel IS very smooth, alcohol hidden as best it can. Not obvious in the taste but very much there in the swallow.
Now I am getting some lactose as it warmed up. I didn't expect that. Not all that welcome
Overall, an enjoyable variant but I doubt that I will buy another bottle.

The Aromas are stinky cheese, vanilla, dark malt. Flavors are similar to nose with the stinky cheese tapering a little some roast coming out also hints of black patent. Sweet up front with a little bitter in the back. The stinky cheese putridity is a real liability here. Good body and okay finish.

9300th review! 22 ounce bottle into snifter; release #1, bottled in 10/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, hazelnuts, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malts, coffee, hazelnuts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, whiskey barrels, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, hazelnuts, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, peppery, roast, charred, coffee bitterness; and whiskey/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, hazelnuts, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, dark bread/crust, coconut, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts, coffee, hazelnuts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, whiskey barrels, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet and whiskey/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness and whiskey/oak tannin spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, fairly sticky/chalky/tannic, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 10.1%, with minimal lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged flavored imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts, coffee, hazelnuts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, whiskey barrels, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/charred/tannic/drying finish. Great soft/silky feel, and not overly bitter/charred/tannic. Fantastic balance of super rich malts, coffee, cocoa, hazelnuts, and whiskey barrel presence/integration. Solid earthy hops and mild fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering bitter/charred/tannic dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example. Another fantastic variant as expected. Not nearly as impressive as the Base, Multi-barreled, or Baptista; but well worth picking up another for the price.

Solid latte flavors and vanilla forward but nose and body are missing a bit. Also hazelnut is lost.

Sampled from the tap at Beer Grotto A2. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of hazelnut and bourbon with vanilla, roast and dark grains supporting. Flavor has hazelnut and earthy dark grains with roasted malts and a bit of vanilla.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is fairly coffee forward with lighter notes of cacao and even lighter notes of vanilla and hazelnut. Light alcohol spice with hints of oak and whiskey. Pours black with a medium large, thick, creamy, mocha head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers. Light lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with moderately strong chocolate malt and cacao notes. Lighter roast and moderate coffee notes. Moderately strong bitterness with light alcohol spice, faint whiskey and faint oak notes. Hints of vanilla and hazelnut. Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer. The adjuncts are well balanced allowing the base stout to still show through nicely.

4 ounce at Denver tap room - pretty heavy on the hazelnut here - the coffee is present, but is subsumed by the vanilla and hazelnut sweetness - moderate booziness - chocolate, light smoke - not the best iteration, a bit sweet, but it’s good.
