An India pale ale packed with whole tangerine & pineapple
Imagine the tropical haze of a lazy afternoon- into-evening. Your official duties for the day have been to maybe take a hike to a secluded waterfall, perhaps grill something, definitely chill with plenty of sand between your toes…and crack a phenomenal beer to complete the experience. Check, check, check again and…pfffft…check.
This ain’t no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine — the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit — we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you’d likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn’t tell you it was there). We’re not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the “I want my beer to taste like fruit juice” crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids.
Working with fruit can be amazing and so using amazing quality fruit is key to achieving that wonderful freshness. The high-end pureed fruit selected here blends exceptionally well with the aroma and flavors from the hops, creating a multi-layered IPA that also has fresh hoppy dankness and bitterness that superbly rounds out this beer.

Can 35,5 cl. Pours a cloudy, opaque deep orangey golden with a small, white head. An unfresh, not overly pleasant aroma. Rich, sweet, fruity body with quite some finishing bitterness. 190224

0,355 l can. Cloudy orange yellow in the glass, small one finger white head. BB 04.02.3024. Orange with pale grain on the nose. Taste starts with an intensive hop bitterness, resin and orange. Increasing dry grain bitterness and straw with black tea in the aftertaste.

I cannot be sure where I obtained this 12 oz can. But I am a bit late on opening it before the best-by date. Not a problem. I will have a taste tonight. My ABGB snifter is in place and I pour. The appearance is pleasant, sort of an orange-gold liquid, let's call it tangerine colored with a heroic top of almost white foam and I see some lacing potential. The smell is assuredly citrus and a small amount of hops showing up also. The payoff is the drink though and so I move to that. Tangerine minimally, surprisingly bitter for a fruit IPA which I like, hops, white bread and other citrus. To be a hazy IPA, it certainly has aspects of west coast style, again I think this is going the right direction. Better than expected.

Gute Substanz.

Poured from the tap. Clear-ish gold with small white head. Mild citrus hops, feint pine and tangerine. A bit subdued, a bit uninspired, but fine.

Its a lot like their regular hazy IPA except for the fairly present tangerine aroma and flavor. There is a light resin element, also a tad floral. Medium mouthfeel, balanced overall. Its fine.
