SEASONALLY UNEXPECTED WET-HOPPED JUICY ALE
Hops are good, fresh hops are better, wet hops are best. We say 'wet hops' because they have not been dried after harvest. We say 'better' because they possess the fullest expression of hop flavor; vine-fresh. Since harvest only occurs one time a year, achieving year-round wet-hop flavor has become the Holy Grail pursuit of hoppy brewing. Our quest led us to develop a new hop liquification process which Born Again Yesterday first proved damn-near divine. Today we're changing things further: bringing that Seasonally Unexpected wet-hop flavor to an unfiltered, juicy nectar that's somewhere between a solid and a liquid... a Phase Change of sorts.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Golden with a light haze, lasting cap of creamy head. Sweet, fruity aroma, light malty character. Taste has caramel malts with faint fruity notes. Small sting at the finish. Full, rich.

Not bad, nice meandering trip through modern juicy IPAs, stone fruit and tropical fruit and citrus, well-made if a tad harsh on the carbonation. Dry finish is nice, but seems a tad basic. Generic; missing some good ol’ Lagunitas weirdness.

Bottle sent by Lagunitas for my comment. The look of the pour is hazy, more translucent. There is a slightly puffy head to it, but it diminished very quickly compared to other beers of this type. I smell a bit of pineapple and a little other tropical fruit, not much of the usual pine that comes from fresh hops. The taste is pretty juicy, there is not as much grassy quality as I have come to find in fresh hopped beers. It’s not too bitter upfront, but there is a slight bitter, hoppy burn in the back of my palate after I’ve had the first sips. Having gotten my “reviewing calibration” taste out of the way, I still have some beer left that I can sit back and dawdle on, while I’m deciding whether those turkey burgers are finished yet. Even half finished, it still has some punchy alcohol to it that is gone just slightly to my head.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/14/2019. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.4%. Overall this is a fantastic wet hopped IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/fairly earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Amazing Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great balancing bready malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example. Loved the hop profile as expected.
