Version ghost 674. The Aromas are roast, Dark malt, some black patent, with a little bit of cocoa, anise, and molasses. Flavors are somewhat like Noah's, thankfully the anise and molasses fall off and roast and cocoa come through stronger. Fairly dry with some strong bitterness in the Finish. Decent body. I don't know that I would call it a Black IPA though except for this bottle's kind of old.

0589/2000. Ultra roasty, dark, bitter, hop apocalypse. Really not in the mood for a burnt IPA. Oops.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; Ghost 590, bottled in 6/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with amazing retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, nuttiness, biscuit, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of grapefruit, orange, peach, melon, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, smoke, charcoal, herbal, floral, grass, and roast/toast/smoky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate citrus/pine/earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, molasses, smoke, charcoal, biscuit, toasted dark bread, grapefruit, orange, peach, melon, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, herbal, floral, grass, and roast/toast/smoky earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy peppery hop; and roast/charcoal bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, molasses, smoke, charcoal, biscuit, toasted dark bread, grapefruit, orange, peach, melon, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, herbal, floral, grass, and roast/toast/smoky earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/black/bready malts and moderate citrus/pine/earthy hop flavors; with a great hop/roast bitter/sweet balance; and minimal acrid/astringent roast/hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and fairly sticky/resinous/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal lingering warmth of 10.1%. Overall this is an awesome black DIPA, All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/black/bready malts and moderate citrus/pine/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on; with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish. Drinks more like a American hopped Russian imperial stout after a year of age; but no issue there, was the expectation. Very rich black/roast malt complexity and balanced citrusy/resinous/earthy hops. Probably Centennial, Columbus, Chinook. A really enjoyable and impressive offering.

From a bomber. Pours black with a tan head. Aromas of leather and charred oak. Flavors are bitter roast with just a hint of caramel sweetness. Lingering bitter roast finish.

Pours a black from a bottle, dark khaki head, looks like a stout really. Smell is of char, pine sap, molasses. Flavor is a thick sweet syrupy chocolate malt with some heavy hop bitterness throughout, surprisingly floral on the aftertaste. I feel like this subverts what happens with say an IIPA where the malt finishes and here it's like drinking a stout with a complementary IPA chaser. Good beer.

Oh my. Big, angry, viciously hoppy black ale, a monstrous IBU-stacked mix of chocolate and weed and citrus and pine, resinous and complex without delving into imperial stout indulgence. Hints of smoke and black pepper pop up on the finish, while a modest boozy warmth rounds out the fade. Strong chocolate-dank nose, and the pour’s a sexy black with a slight head but ample lace. Tasty burst of hop vitriol and dark beer love. Yum.

Deep dark brown coloured body that’s about 90% opaque with a pleasant, three to four centimetre tall rich light bown head. Aroma of roasted malt, light smoke, tons of alcohol, a lot of malt and rich caramel notes that ends with some faint fruity scents as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong hoppy flavours of grass, grapefruit, herbs and a smooth and pungent malt flavour that burns as it goes down - straight from the assertive alcohol flavours. Overall, a nice Imperial IPA with a ton of alcohol flavours, some rich hops and a big malt backbone which shows well in addition Good to sample and if easily available, this one would be a sure pickup, however, it it isn’t cheap. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 15-November-2016 for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington after returning from New York on 22-January-2017. Bottle #1258 of #3000, Purchased: 15-Nov-2016 // Sampled: 22-January-2017

22oz bottle pours a murky black with some frothy, beige head. Nose has toast, molasses, crackers, some pine, soap, light coffee bean. Flavor follows along, burnt toast, bread crust, heavy molasses, pine is there, dried citrus rind, soap. Full bodied and bitter, but drinks surprisingly easy for 10%.
