Pours dark brown with a thin creme head. Aroma of toasted malt, butter herbs. Taste is watery and relatively plain. Palate has a nutty note on the nose, slight smokey element on the tongue. Not bad.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a red-brown color with a medium sized creamy beige head that left decent lacing. The aroma was dark fruit, caramel and malt. The flavor was woody and malty with sharp dark fruits a bit of astringency and a touch of leather. Long finish. Medium body.

Had this as a draft at a local restaurant that typically has a crappy craft selection. Thoroughly enjoyable. Brown ale with English mild. Low hop, brown malts, a little watery but lots of clean earthy malt flavor. Nice to see Magic Hat can still pull one off.

16 oz can. Pours an opaque root beer color with a tight beige head and good retention. Minimal lacing. Smokey light caramel malt and nutty flavor. Short finish. Light body with semi-flat mouthfeel. Very smooth and clean.

Big pounder can. Pours is quite nice, a darker beer with alabaster near tan head. Smell is pleasantly malty. Taste is good up front with plenty of co2. Rather mild and enjoyable dark brew. Right up there with black and tan. Not bad. Finish is surprisingly civilized as well. Would drink a couple more, heheh. I think I even detect a little wild hair in there too. A very good central american style dark beer. Thank you.

Can pour into nonic pint glass from The City, Plaistow NH. Appearance is hazy brown with dark reddish hue, fizzy, finger-width light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is caramel malts with light roast, milder vanilla and yeast. Taste is caramel, hint of chocolate and coffee. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, average carbonation and lightly sweet but mainly bitter roast finish. Overall, though there are hints of a variety of flavors this is mostly a standard brown ale.

16 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 2/13/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, raisin, plum, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, raisin, plum, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/peppery hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, grass, light dark fruit, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a very good English brown ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Nicely rich English malt complexity; with mild complementing fruity English yeast and earthy hop balance. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Not really many US breweries doing proper English brown ales these days.
