We aged this imperial milk stout to perfection in Rye whiskey barrels and added vanilla beans. The result is a slightly sweet, smooth, creamy stout with an underlying rye spiciness and boozy finish.

The Aromas are cocoa dark malt and a little roast and vanilla. Flavors are like news, much more sweet than bitter, vanilla cocoa roast all come out more. Hint of whiskey in there. Good body and finish.

Bottle. Deep garnet red-brown body, (barely) translucent; medium tight light brown head. Nose syrupy-sweet, with graham crackers, cocoa, pennies, and lots of vanilla. Intensely sweet body, with graham, lactose, toffee, and roasted coffee, but savaged by incessant cloying artificial-tasting vanilla. Not a drain pour but a mess nonetheless.

Keg at BD Nottingham. It pour darkest brown with a small tan head. The aroma is rich, plucky, sweet, oily, unctuous, big whiskey character, vanilla, oak, toasted coconut, light spice, dark chocolate, toffee and some tobacco. The taste is pretty hot upfront, booze, oily, rather sweet, loads of vanilla, toasted malt, whisky, rather spicy, chewy, toothy, tannin, milk. Chocolate, chocolate cake and bounty bar with a short, yet boozy finish. Medium to Full body and lowish carbonation. Really nice aromas, but the taste lacks depth and has a heavy alcohol sting. A. Mixed bag, but not without its charms.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/4/2017. Pours dense opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, fudge, toffee, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey, oak, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of coffee, coconut, smoke, marshmallow, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/rye/bready malt, vanilla, lactose, and rye whiskey barrel notes; with good strength. A bit of booze as it warms, but not overwhelming. Taste of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, fudge, toffee, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey, oak, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of coffee, coconut, smoke, marshmallow, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Very mild roast bitterness and rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, fudge, toffee, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey, oak, toasted dark/brown bread, coffee, coconut, marshmallow, molasses, dark fruit, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/rye/bready malt, vanilla, lactose, and rye whiskey barrel flavors; with an nice roasted bitter/sweet and whiskey/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, slick, and velvety mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Mildly increasing warmth of 11%, with a touch of booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic BA imperial milk stout. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/rye/bready malt, vanilla, lactose, and rye whiskey barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Extremely rich malt complexity with perfect barrel integration. Never boozy, tannic, or drying. A very thick and dense pouring beer from the rye and lactose. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Not too roasty.

On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of vanilla and barrel with dark grains, roasted malts and a bit of rye. Flavor combines sweet dark grains, vanilla and barrel with some rye and roast supporting.
