12 oz. bottle.

AROMA: Scents of caramel, oatmeal cookie, and brown sugar.

APPEARANCE: Pours an opaque black with a tall, dirty-tan head that dissipates slowly.

TASTE: Sweet, but not as sweet as the aroma would lead you to believe. There is also a bit of bitter-coffee flavor on the backend.

PALATE: Medium-bodied with a thick texture and average carbonation. Finish is a little on the bitter side.

OVERALL: Another "average" Samuel Adams beer. Not bad, but not great either. Although, I would say that the body and texture are a bit better than most Samuel Adams beers. I would happily drink one of these if it was offered to me. But if I'm buying beer at the store, I'm passing this one over and choosing something better.

12 ounce bottle, 11/16/17. Near black, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast, chocolate, oats. The taste is roasted malts, oats, chocolate, a bit of nuttiness, bitter finish. Thin-medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. Nice.

From the Samuel Adams holiday mix pack. Poured a smooth black color with a medium sized, brown head. Aroma was plenty of roasted malts, light chocolate, with a little bit of coffee. Some nice smooth creamy oats, with some mild malt and bitter chocolate.

12 oz bottle from the winter variety pack. Aroma is cocoa, dark bread, coffee, hint of licorice. Pours black with red highlights and a one finger beige head with decent retention. Taste is lightly sweet with lots of roast; has a fleeting metallic off note. Perfect mouthfeel. Not bad. This is the best seasonal pack Sam Adams has come out with in a long long time.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 4/2018. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, molasses, smoke, char, dark fruits, herbal, wood, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, molasses, smoke, char, dark fruits, herbal, wood, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, dark/brown bread, nuttiness, light smoke/dark fruit, herbal, wood, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Mildly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a very nice Oatmeal stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Nicely rich feeling for the ABV. Very well rounded malt complexity, with mild complementing English yeast character and balancing English hops. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

12oz bottle. This tastes like a true Caribbean Stout to me. Medium boided. Pungent dark chocolate covered fruit tones. Pinches of lactose? Oats. Sweet brown chocolate, roast, caramel. Just nails the style, this would be a hit in the islands. Really good.

Pour is a near black with a large tan head. Aroma is a real nice roasted malt and bakers chocolate. Flavor is a creamy mouth feel and a little less roasted malt than the aroma lets on. Finish is a little bitter and dry. A decent attempt and this was above par it was just a little thin in the roasted malt dept.
