Maracujá is a sensationally sour ale with a lively addition of passion fruit juice and lactose. This brew pairs elevated tartness and zesty tropical fruit notes with a touch of sweetness.

Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a dark copper color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was tangy and sour with apple, peach and a hint of mustiness. The flavor was sour, tart and a bit vinegary with apple and peach notes. Very long finish. Medium body.

This beer is a slightly hazy straw-gold color with a medium white head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of tart tropical fruit, yeast and malt. Medium body with a tart passionfruit and lemon character, and notes of herbal yeast and biscuit malt in the background. The finish is incredibly sour with a lingering citrus and passionfruit aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger foamy and fluffy off white head with decent retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge huge sour/juicy/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, peach, pineapple, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, grape, mango, melon, papaya, berry, sea salt, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, passion fruit juice, salt, and moderate pale malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge sour/juicy/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, peach, pineapple, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, grape, mango, melon, papaya, berry, sea salt, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, peach, pineapple, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, grape, mango, melon, papaya, berry, sea salt, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, passion fruit juice, salt, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/sourness balance. Increasingly puckering, but not astringent on sourness. Light-moderate dryness from sourness and fruit tang, increasing through the glass. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, acidic, grainy, tangy, tannic, and saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 7%. Overall this is an amazing imperial fruited gose! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, passion fruit juice, salt, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and quite refreshing to drink; despite the increasingly lactic/tangy/tannic/drying finish. The Lacto is pretty intense, but not totally overpowering. Enormous amounts of juicy fruit and yeast complexity; and a nice malt backbone to help control the acidity. A bit more salty/saline than most I’ve had before, but it doesn’t throw off the balance at all. A highly enjoyable offering.
