Donker roodbruin bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig met iets van graan en citrus. Valt wat tegen.

Absolutely huge, frothy, light yellowish head over clear, metallic, pale copper beer. Fresh, delicate New World hops, light citrus, green herbs, lunaria, nectarine. Taste is all the above, but watered down in the extreme, with a bit of sugar added... How is it possible, seriously??? Really stable head gives a creamy, protein-like feel, and the beer is quite slick too. Quite low carbonation. The nose promised everything about real IPA, even Westcoast... then the taste brought our feet back on the low Belgian ground.

New IPA interpretation of what is essentially a Duvel-style ‘edelbier’, bottle at Frituur ‘t Patatje in Beveren (an unlikely place for beer ticks, but they have the complete Roman line-up including their table beers so why not). Eggshell-white, cobweb-lacing, very thick and rocky head over a misty amberish-tinged orange blonde beer. Aroma of orange peel, old bread crust, dried apricot, peach, paprika peel, some ‘old urine’ dankness, grapefruit juice, onion frying in olive oil, dust, raw leek, white bread, unripe banana. Fruity onset, sweet banana ester with notes of peach and pineapple, sourish edge accentuated by sharp, minerally carbonation in an otherwise soft, fluffy, supple environment. White bready, cereally and caramelly malt sweetish core with a light toasty edge, working its way to a spicy, hop bitter finish with retronasal notes of grapefruit and dried orange peel as well as something oniony; its pepperiness in the back of the mouth, however, is penetrated by lingering fruity banana and other esters as well as some mildly spicy phenols. ‘Belgian IPA’ in the most Belgian sense of the word, a bit like Vedett IPA or – in the stronger range – Houblon Chouffe, but by itself certainly not a bad beer, not even the worst attempt at IPA by a very traditional Belgian family brewery I have encountered so far. Better than expected, might even revisit when given the chance.

Sampled at zythos 2018. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours clear blonde, smell has hay, some barnyard. Not what I expect in an IPA. Taste is medium intense, full on hay, malty base. Mild bitterness. Not as aromatic or hoppy as it should be. How is this an IPA ?

Two 33cl bottles on 15th May 2018, in Volkscafé Sint-Jakobs (Brugge) while chatting at the bar with Tom and our old friend 'Beastie'. Clear golden pour, small semi-white head. Tropical fruit esters in the nose, citrusy flavour to the taste, bordering on bitter/sour lemon and grapefruits in the aftertaste, some light malty sweetness mid-sip.

Sample at ZBF 2018, thanks Belgian RB table.
