Bourbon Street Rye Pale Ale is brewed with pale and Munich malts as well as rye. The malts impart a sweet flavor and an aroma of bread and nuts. Centennial hops give the beer a pleasant citrus flavor and aroma. After fermentation, the beer is cold aged before bourbon barrel aging begins. During barrel aging, the brew absorbs the flavors of the barrel such a vanilla, oak, and bourbon. These barrel flavors pair well with the sweet flavors of the malted barley and bread flavors of the rye.

Bottled next to Pirate's House, Savannah. Massive bourbon, vanilla, malty, caramel malts. Fairly sweet.

Huge half bottle gusher from the bomber. Nose is vanilla, light bourbon, and brown bread with a slight hint of bubblegum. Rusty orange with a huge beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet, light bourbon, vanilla, and a background hint of bitterness. Would be a nice, different style of bourbon barrel aged beer except for the gusher I couldn’t control when I gently lifted one edge of the cap. Hugely over carbonated.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, best before 1/12/2017. Bit of a gusher upon opening, but not infected. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light nutty/spicy rye, light grapefruit/orange/pine hops, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light citrus hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light nutty/spicy rye, light grapefruit/orange/pine hops, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light rye/bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light nutty/spicy rye, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light citrus hop flavors; with a great malt and bourbon/oak spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky/grainy, and slightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Barrel aged strong ale style. all around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light citrus hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bomber from Wine & Cheese. Pours rather hazy orange/copper with a slight arguably beige head. Aroma of rye and arguably bourbon. Med body at least. Flavor is spicy rye with some musty wood, and clearly some bourbon. The bourbon isn’t very strong, and I suspect the barrels were quite old. But the rye is the saving grace here. It’s not very dry and not very bitter, but it is ryeish.

Sample at Daily Growler UA. Slightly hazy dark amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, fruit and malt. Medium-bodied with a bourbon character and notes of roast malt, oak and fruit. The finish is boozy up front with an earthy hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

16oz pour at Spacebar comes a lightly hazy orange amber with some creamy, lacing white head. Big nose of malt, caramel, and honey comb, booze too, some cheap whiskey. Flavor is like a shot of Jamey in a pale ale, corn whiskey, caramel, booze, orange, soap, some honey. Full, creamy finish.

4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear amber with off-white head. Aromas of whiskey, light rye and citrus. Tastes of whiskey, caramel, malt, light citrus and rye. Medium body with a dry finish. Maybe more of an American Strong Ale as the barrel aging transforms it quite a bit, nice surprise.
