The Dubbel is Quad’s little brother and in typical fashion he is quite a bit more adventurous. Expect some background notes from his Autumn camping trips to the woods.

Nice slightly hazy deep amber and brown coloured body with a muddied glow and a nice sized three centimetre tall tan head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of light pit fruits, caramel, nuts, earth, grain, toffee and little else - very mild and not much around for a while. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strong nutty and caramel flavours with some malt and yeast elements up front, along with bread, grain, earth and a bit of candy sugars and a touch of bitterness near the end with fruit noticeable as well. Aftertaste is very mild with some nuts and earth, with hardly any complexities at all and a rather mundane and boring flavour of yeast, caramel and nuts. Overall, a pretty substandard beer, especially for the style - not much going on in this one, not complex at all, and not worth searching out nor holding onto it for any period of time, like I did. I sampled this 37,5 cL bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 24-July-2015 for US$6,49 sampled at home in Washington on 13-January-2017.

Tap at Alchemy. Pint. Fruity red fruit tones. Lowish seeming ABV. Leans way into the yeast. Raisin, prune, lots of fruity tones, especially for a US example. A little thin for the style, but still a solid example. Oily, woody, earthy, unique offering.

Bottle. Dark brown, muddy appearance. The aroma is right, earthy, some dried fruit. Caramel and more fruit in the flavor, sweet malt is prominent. Flavor is good, palate see!s just a little thin. Good.

500 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours hazy deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, plum, pear, apple, white grape, light banana, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, pear, apple, white grape, light banana, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of herbal/earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, pear, apple, white grape, light banana, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an insane dubbel style! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. An insanely delicious offering,

500ml bottle - turbid amber - fizzy body and head - nose of raisin, plum, dark bread, damp leaves, basement yeastiness - body is a bit thin and watery - flavor is a bit tart and somewhat metallic up front - some bready maltiness follows - leafy bitterness, some nutty maltiness - watery and moderately acidic finish - nice aroma, but overall falls short - my third shot with this brewery and I’ve not been impressed with any.
