Bomber from State Line, 4/11/15. Clear dark red tinted brown, thin fizzy tan head, poor retention. Aroma of chocolate cake and cherries. Pretty spot on. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, cherries, vanilla, cocoa, raisin. Thin bodied, mild lingering roast. Solid.

22 oz / 650 ml bottle bottle purchased at One Stop Market. Aroma shows me mild roast, light chocolate and weak cherry syrup.

Upfront of the flavor of cherry syrup followed by weak chocolate and roast. Maybe I need to take a palate reset week because damn near every brew I have had lately seems like it has a very thin body, like this brew. Do I have palate fatigue??? Again, thin body. Oh wait this is a Harpoon beer, so the body should be thin. Positive aspect the ABV is hidden and it still tastes good.

This is a dark reddish brown. almost no head. Nose is a brown sugar malt, cocoa, some sweet birch syrup and faint tree fruit. It’s a decent nose. Sweet finish, up front is a woody sweet malty body with a faint cherry and almonds. not great but interesting.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, lightly tart cherry, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, brown sugar, light coffee, raisin, plum, herbal, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt, cherry, and light-moderate yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk chocolate, lightly tart cherry, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, brown sugar, light coffee, raisin, plum, herbal, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cherry, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, brown sugar, light coffee, raisin, plum, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt, cherry, and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good imperial English porter style. All around good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt, cherry, and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. I would have liked a bit more cherry presence; but as an general English imperial porter, it was very enjoyable overall.

Bottle, 22oz, at Haand Festival -14. A clear, dark brown beer topped by a small, off-white head. Licorice, chocolate, dried fruits and some coffee and berry hints on the nose. It’s lighlty warming on the palate, full-bodied and soft, with flavors of coffee, chocolate, dried fruits and some alcohol. And a nice hoppy bitterness. Lasting finish with the malty flavors dominating. A sort of one-dimensional beer, still quite complex and indeed nice. 140523
