Can thanks to Jeremy! Pours opaque black, small tan head, creamy with good lacing. Aroma is roasty, ashtray, faint rubber, molasses. Flavor is very light tart; tangy, roasty, rich, cherries, a bit of herbal. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel.

6oz tap at Jerry’s in Wicker Park. Black beer. Strong aroma of alcohol, roasted chocolate, very syrupy, and lots of sweetness. Flavor is similar with autolysis. Its just to big and too harsh. Lots of Belgian doughty yeast, which I really like. However, too big, too much. I would love an 8% version of this beer, maybe PlowPony.

On tap. Pours black with a light tan head. Really great aroma, soy and dark fruit, molasses, milk chocolate and malted milk ball. Flavors are similar, perhaps a bit more emphasis on the cocoa. Really tasty.

Can sample courtesy of JPDurden24. It pours with a nice and dark body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, earthy malts, Belgian candi sugar, chocolate and then some date smelling dark fruity esters. The taste delivers Belgian candi sugar sweetness, chocolate, malt sweetened dark roasted malts, a mild level of Belgian yeasty spiciness and then some brown sugar rounding the experience out. Solid tasting Impy where the chocolate and Belgo notes are going very well together.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no canning date, but was released recently. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger fairly dense dark brown head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, toffee, molasses, raisin, clove, pepper, light coffee, light banana, light char, and roasted/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of roasted malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, molasses, toffee, dark bread, clove, raisin, pear, light banana, light char, light pepper, and roasted/yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, molasses, toffee, dark bread, clove, raisin, light char, and roasted/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roasted malt and yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian imperial stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of roasted malt and moderate yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Can. Deep opaque brown body, medium light brown head. Rich nose of chocolate, coffee, and raisin. Lots of dense malts; toffee and chocolate-covered nuts. I wrote nuts. Plummy and rich. Lots and lots of chewy toffee as the beer warms. Yum and delicious.
