The English-style brown ale has an alluring mahogany color capped by a rich foam head. It is brewed with six different varieties of premium malted barley, creates a robust body and delicious flavor profile featuring hints of chocolate, raisins, dates and almonds. Its ripe fruit notes and malty-sweet finish are counterbalanced by a subtle hop bitterness and aroma.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was dark brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that swiftly dissipated. Some lace, and somewhat stringy.
The aroma had some sweet nuts, somewhat roasty, some dark fruits, light earthiness, some cocoa powder, woodiness, and a little bit of basement but not funky.
The flavor blended all of the previously mentioned aromas together somewhat sweet with a mild roast rolling in underneath. Aftertaste was malty with the nuts and some light caramel now. Finish was semi-sweet slight sticky but acceptable.
The feel was roughly medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty good brown ale that I think I could come back to.

This brown ale poured a dark amber colour with a minimal tan coloured head. Scents include ripe fruit and caramel. First swig was Nice with medium carbonation and flavours of lightly roasted malt, caramel and a light hop flavour. A .little watery but still has good flavour. Finish is roasty but not too much. With a nice light hop.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/4/2012. Pours lightly hazy reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toast, cocoa, brown bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral hop earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, light raisin, and floral hop earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, chocolate, dark bread, light nuttiness, roasted malt, and floral earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and robustness of malty flavors; with hardly any cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, lightly slick, and earthy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown ale. Good balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering; though not as nutty as I would expect given the nut brown title.

Nice deep dark brown color. Unfiltered, has gunk on the bottom of the bottle. Has a fairly pleasant aroma. Roasted flavors of stout in the background. Also has a hint of tartness in there that I find pleasing. Strong, but not as strong as I thought the near 6% should be. Goodly amount of CO2 sizzle. After each slug there is this almost rude hop sensation that never quite gets there. For the most part tho, the slight tartness and that stout personality makes this somewhat enjoyable. Yep that hop style bitter linger sure is a distraction for me in this beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 11/12/09

Aroma: The nose on this one is sweet malts, some nuts, dark fruits, and chocolate
Appearance: A clear dark copper-red color, actually, the descriptions right, mahogany describes it better, minimal head, some lace
Flavor: The flavor is like the nose with more emphasis on the toasted malts and a little more bitterness
Palate: This is a medium bodied brew with a decent mouthfeel, and quite a bit of carbonation
Overall Impression: I actually thought this one was pretty solid, and it appears to be just a bit underrated here in my opinion. I'd buy this one again, it drinks pretty nicely.

12 oz. bottle from Wine Warehouse. Ruby tinted brown pour, slightly hazy, withe a three finger head. Good retention and nice webs of lacing. Milky aroma with roasted malts and dark fruits. Taste is strong raisin with roasted malts, nuts, brown sugar and a very subtle hop finish. Smooth and medium bodied.

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Hazy dark brown color with a humongous beige head. Has that typical roasted malt, nutty brown ale aroma. Medium body with incredibly frothy carbonation. Flavor is nutty, dark roast malt, and something dusty. There’s some lurking fruit, which might be dark fruit, and I only suspect a sour touch. I expected sour in a brown, but didn’t get it. Which is good this time. Finish is kind of like a cookie, but not sweet. Very pleasant and tasty drink. Seems underrated.

12oz bottle. Thick ambery-brown color. Rich, creamy, with a nice chocolaty taste that lingers in the aftertaste. Sweet brown sugar aroma. Very drinkable and refreshing. This is really an excellent Brown Ale, vastly underrated.

Extremely tinny lime smell. Brown pour with floaties and thin tan head. Soapy lime flavor. Light bark and grass finish. Thinnish mouthfeel. Hardly like any brown ale I’ve ever had. Amber? Maybe.
