Brewed for Whole Foods. Old Plowshare is a full-flavored Celtic style Stout. Smooth and firm-bodied with the bold flavor notes of dark roasted malts. Because Old Plowshare is organic it remains true to the time-honored Irish tradition of respect for natural ingredients. A great pub classic or the perfect Black and Tan.

Bottle. Poured dark brown with a small tan head. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. The same in the flavor. Medium body with a quite bitter aftertaste. An ok brew.

This stout poured a deep black colour with a nice, creamy brown head. To the nose there are scents of cocoa, coffee, burnt malt and a little grain/bread. First swig was very smooth and creamy with a awesome, creamy mouthfeel. Flavours of chocolate and caramel with a slight roasted coffee flavour was delicious. Finish is roasty with a little coffee and malt lingering.

Bottle. Pours with a small, tan head over a dark brown body. Aroma of coffee grounds and rich chocolate. Taste is coffee, slightly metallic notes, and quite watery overall. Thinnish mouthfeel, lively bubbles.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a smallish off-white head. Aroma of heavily roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and a hint of prunes. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours throughout with a good sweetness overlayed. The roasty malt characteristics cover the beer nicely and the bitterness and semi-sweetness continue on to the aftertaste efficiently. Overall, a good stout - definitely worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 31 December 2006.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark, almost black color with a thick tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. Flavor is quite pleasant, with a nice creamy chocolate, coffee, and roasted flavor. Definitely one to check out again.

Pours ebony/mahogany into a shaker. Oatmeal conglomerate head with good retention leaves spotted sheets as it recedes. Sour pit fruits, citrus and dusty chocolate aromas. Sharp and sour upfront changing to espresso and chocolate in the middle to the lasting roasty bitter chocolate finish.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Transparent ruby/black, small head. Roasty aroma with licorice and tobacco. Dry and clean with slim body. Some coffee and grapefruit, salty with notes of tobacco. Medium bitterness. A relatively drinkable laid back stout with a couple of sharp edges.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a medium tanned head. Aroma is rich with coffee, mocha, and roasted tones. Flavor is roasty with cocoa, light chocolate, and lingering bitters. One of the better organic brews I’ve sampled to date.

Transluscent dark brown color. Small tan head. Medium coffeeish roasted malt aroma. Roasted malt flavor lacks depth. More like a brown ale or porter than a stout. Long dry finish.
