Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a very dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized creamy orange-tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dark fruits, sugar, wood, tobacco and anise. The flavor was sugar, candied raisins, dates and black cherries with a boozy rum presence throughout and notes of toffee, tobacco, bread, anise and leather. Incredibly long finish of dark fruits, rum, tobacco, anise and leather. Wonderfully complex with flavors that come on in waves. Moderately full bodied. Very boozy but not that surprising given the alcohol content. Excellent.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear dark rust color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of bread, toffee, booze, nuts. The taste is toffee, nuts, booze. Medium bodied. Good lord this is hot. Extremely boozy and quite off-putting.

12 ounce bottle into chalice, 2012 vintage. Pours fairly crystal clear reddish brown color with a small light khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin ring of lace. Minimal lacing clings to the glass, with a small amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of plum, prune, molasses, caramel, cherry, toast, biscuit, banana, allspice, cinnamon, clove, and a bit of alcohol. Some pretty nice and quite unique Quadrupel aromas; with good balance and complexity. Taste of prune, cherry, toast, raisin, biscuit, allspice, banana, clove, and alcohol. Lingering notes of dark fruit, toast, spices, clove, banana, molasses, caramel, and biscuit on the finish for a good bit. Flavors are pretty good, but it is a bit boozy and not as complex as I was hoping. No cloying sweetness. Medium-low carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a fairly slick and thick mouthfeel that is decent. Alcohol presence is quite noticeable with a large lasting warming on the finish. Overall this is an ok quad. Decent flavor balance and complexity; and pretty smooth to sip on slowly.

When I bought this beer the guy at the Lebanon Health Food store told me it tasted exactly like Roche 10. Not so sure about that but it’s still a decent beer. Smells like black fruits, raisins and sweet plum. Taste has more sugarcane sweetness and some bitterness at the end. Pours a dark brown mahogany colour. Pretty respectable - most of the other Harpoons that I’ve had have been sub-par but this is a pretty good beer. Bottle.

12oz bottle. Stained glass brown-amber color. Fading beige head. Sweet brown sugary flavor soaked in dark fruit. Pretty alcohol forward but works with it well, not unlike a top shelf liqueur. Some biting bitterness fades into a vanilla molasses finish. Big, bold dark fruit tones. This beer really kicks ass, they nail the flavor profile and amp it up. A great slow sipper, not session beer at all. Way above my expectations! Stellar!

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 2/9/12
Aroma: The nose has some sweet raisins and dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, toast, and yeast
Appearance: It pours a murky looking brownish-orange color, with a small off-white head and light lacing
Flavor: Tastes fairly sweet up-front, dark fruit, caramel, and brown sugar flavors, finishes with a boozy taste
Palate: The body is fairly full, with a slight tingle on the mouth, and a somewhat heavily hot, alcohol finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid Quad but it is not really a standout for the style. Still though, it is a pretty good offering with a decent complexity to it. I would have preferred that the sweetness was balanced a little more, and that there was a little less heat from the booze, but none-the-less, I still liked this one.

Had this in a Harpoon Leviathan glass at harpoon brewery in Vermont. This is the Cask style ale. They serve it once only directly from barrels. A- deep brown color. The head matches well. The head was huge and took a while to go away S - Nutty. It’s no longer like a quad at all. Everything is subdued. Is this still a strong ale? T - vanilla and caramel are huge. Most of the quad taste has left. M - light bodies as minimal carbonation. It lingers with a lot of alcohol taste. Almost a bad beer when you swallow O - this is a great beer usually. Harpoons’s CASK style took everything great away. Meh.
