Tap pint at Little Beer Quarter, Wellington NZ. Pours clear mid gold with white foam. Aroma: pale malts, peach, apricot, lime, light floral, grass. Taste: light to moderate sweet and bitter, follows the aroma. Towards medium body with soft carbonation. Went down nicely.

Can at home, Nivala. Enjoyed straight from the can. Boring pale ale. Quite old probably.

330ml can. Slightly cloudy, orangey golden colour with average, frothy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Piney and citrusy, hoppy aroma, notes of tangerine, orange, mandarine, a touch of grapefruit, sweet-ish, biscuity, pale malty background. Taste is dry, piney and citrusy, minimally tropical fruity hoppy, slightly mineral and chalky, pale and caramel malty basis with some residual sweetness, slightly diluted hints of tangerine and grapefruit. Watery texture, dry palate, minimally overcarbonated. Relatively watery and mineral already, the carbonation fortifies the chalky aspects and detracts from fruitiness additionally.

330ml can sophiesbeerstore.co.uk. Pours clear amber, off-white froth atop. Aroma of grapefruit, marmalade. Taste continues, with a fruity spiced bitterness.. not quite what I expected really, certainly not comparable to the modern pale as we're used to it. Not feeling this one.

Can at the Beer Bank, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly hazy medium amber colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light resin, light citrus, big woody hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, with a malty, light floral, big woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. A little unbalanced I feel. It’s all about the bitterness, which is “nice” I must say. Can’t miss the opportunity to pay homage to one of the greatest beer raters to ever walk this earth :-)
