Imperial Brown Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels with Toasted Coconut Added
This is our bourbon barrel-aged imperial brown ale, Mash, stretching to new levels. Mash & Coconut features nearly 400lbs. of toasted coconut per batch, which ratchets up the complex, native coconut character and complements the oaky and vanilla notes that are imparted to the beer as part of its extensive maturation in bourbon barrels.

Dark amber, small head of white foam, little bit cloudy. Smells sweet, malty, some caramel, bourbon, chocolate. Thick, rich, boozy. Taste is sweet, lots of bourbon and a surprising amount of chocolate. Coconut is real slight in the background. Smooooth.

Sample, thanks fonefan! Viscous dark brown, no head. Aroma of coconut and chocolate cake. Very sweet with full body and sticky mouthfeel. Coconut chocolate pastry with caramel, bourbon and syrup. Peppery finish. Teenager stuff.

The label determines this to be a 750 ml bottle of the 2017 issue that came to me by way of Rare Beer. Glad to get it , the Bruery delivers mostly with the heavier brews. The bottle opened, poured and viewed in a globe glass. I see a dark caramel brown body finished by a steady skim of light tan, very fine bubbles. The scent is deep with grain and also bark and hard candy. I have a drink and find it an improvement over the smell. Toffee, sorghum, dates, chocolate and vanilla and a hint of coconut peaking through. A good, potent sipper.

Tap at Goblet. Murky red-brown, no head. Barrel in the aroma, raisins and vanilla. Smooth taste, vanills and raisins, light coconut, some oxidation. Not too sweet, fairly well balanced. Good stuff!
