Hel & Verdoemenis is bursting with flavors. Bitter, roasted, chocolate, coffee. All times 2. It's this why it's our Flag Ship and best selling Imperial Stout. For this edition we added hazelnut to add even an extra dimension. Flavour indication: chocolate, coffee Translates as Hell & Damnation Hazelnut

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Strong nutella aroma. Malty sweet, roasty flavor with chocolate and nutella. Roasty finish. Lovely aroma, but I prefer the 'regular' Hel & Verdoemenis.

Bottle at Pien. Nose is hazelnuts and chocolate. Rich, sweet flavor, nutty, chocolate, some coffee and cream, a bit of soy. Super nutty. Quite a bitter roasty finish, maybe too bitter, but great.

27 February 2019. At Kantien, Ghent. Shared with the lovely Anke! Pours cloudy black with a lasting, frothy, dark beige head; lots of lacing. Intense aroma of hazelnut paste (Nutella, of course, accept no substitute, though), roasted peanut, toast, milk chocolate, brownie dough, espresso with cream, salted caramel, chocolate powder, coffee liqueur. Taste is medium malty sweet, very nutty indeed, hazelnut & peanut in a slightly salted way, evolving into paste with brownie dough & milk chocolate; light to medium roasted bitter then, in particular roasting those nutty hints, next to mocha & toast, with underlying dark fruits (fig, plum). Dryish, herbal & peppery hoppy finish, lingering nuts, toast, espresso, offering nicely warming coffee liqueur alcohol. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Certainly delivers what it promises, and in an excellent way. Wow! Revisit, bottle from Deconinck. Strong Nutella still, hazelnut & chocolate powder, coffee roast, toast, biscuit. Sweet nutty body, hazelnut paste & chocolate powder, roasted nuts & coffee in the middle, vague dried fruits. Vaguely earthy-umami too. More nuts & chocolate in the finish, sufficiently hopped, coffee 'sediment' in the throat.

Precies wat ik ervan had verwacht. H&V blijft een van m'n favoriete NL stouts en dit is een lekkere variant.

Tap at JaBeerWocky in Warsaw. Coffee bean color with a tick and compact cappuccino foam. Nose: tons and millions of hazelnuts, nut skin aroma going close to old leather sofa. Crazy but truly great. Mouth: again hezelnut skin, a bit astringent if you know what I mean. The overall is toasty but also bitter. Peculiar. Pretty good

A hazelnut-flavoured version of one of De Molen’s flagship stouts, draught at De Kantien in Ghent. Thick and creamy, papery-lacing, thin but closed and stable head over an ink black beer, only revealing its burgundy hue in the very end. Aroma strongly dominated by hazelnut and milk chocolate paste (Nutella!), next to notes of roasted walnuts, walnut oil, burnt toast, cappuccino, natural ‘haemoglobin’ iron, eggnog, green peas and pipe tobacco. Very sweet onset, a thick layer of sugary hazelnut paste over more ‘natural’ notes of dried plum, fig and raisin, softly carbonated with the expected very creamy, full, lactose-generated mouthfeel, accentuating an already extreme hazelnut and milk chocolate flavour – yet in the finish, this desserty sweetness becomes more and more balanced by first toasted and coffeeish-roasty bitterness, a dash of peppery hops and – eventually – a glow of gin-like, yet nowhere too astringent alcohol. Hel & Verdoemenis sweetened and ‘creamified’ to pastry stout, this is as decadent as it is easygoing in spite of the basic beer’s inherent complexity, a dangerously smooth beverage, but very well done for what it set out to be, with the roasted bitter features of a true imperial stout still shining through and providing welcome balance against the Nutella effect. Loved it.
