It was really only a matter of time; we're massive fans of big bold stouts here at LP, but because of our size, we couldn't take the plunge. That is until now. Cassie, named for the horse that occupied Polly's stable before Polly, is the biggest beer we've ever brewed; weighing in at 10.4%.

Everything about this beer is all about decadence - from the silky mouthfeel, to the 10kg of Arabica coffee beans we added. Cassie rocks up with a metric tonne of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and raisin notes.

Can from... Hogs Back shop? Has been sat in my locker at work for months. Dusty dry coffee aroma with a berry streak. Opaque dark red tinged brown. Frothy beige head. Rich and bitter. Espresso bitterness on top with underlying dark chocolate and molasses. Boozy streak. Medium-heavy bodied. Creamy. A prickle of average carbonation. Long astringent peppery finish. Powerful stuff.

440ml can. Pours black with medium tan topping. Good nutty praline and coffee roast on the nose. Continues to taste with a hefty praline character, nice layered chocolate, roasted malts, caramel hints with dried dark fruits coming out on the finish alongside some cigar and leathery notes. Excellent as always.

440ml can. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste of roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, raisin, bitter. Medium bodied (thin for a stout of this ABV I suppose), soft carbonation.

Can from Eltham Wines, Eltham. Black pour with a tan head. Aromas of dark roast coffee, liquorice toffee, burnt sugar, cola, smoke. Rich, roasty flavours of creamy coffee, lught smoke, chocolate caramel, cocoa. Quite dry. Rich sweet smoky roast action in the finish. Very tasty indeed.
