Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Pours black, small tan topping. Aroma presents bucketfuls of caramel, taste seems to focus more on banana foam sweets, a touch too chemically, metallic and sweet. Entertaining novelty for the first sniff and sip, but hard to work much past that.

Cask. Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield. Very dark, chestnut brown. Creamy and thick, beige head. Nose has banana purée. Foam sweets. Caramel. Chocolate caramels. Some vanilla. Nailed on aroma. Taste is less sweet than the nose hints at, with a roast, chocolate malt bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Nicely rich. Bittersweet finish. Great stuff. I mean, you wouldn’t want pint after pint, but it’s a quality brew.
