This German inspired seasonal ale is based on the German Kolsch style of beer originating from Cologne. It’s brewed using Pilsner malt and top fermenting yeast but then held at low temperatures like lager, to give it a smoother flavour. Our Kolsch uses all German hops including; Tettnang, Mittelfruh & Herkules. It’s a fresh, pale, lagerbier which is perfect to enjoy around the Oktoberfest celebrations that take place annually in Germany.

330ml bottle from Appleyards, Shrewsbury. Pours clear gold, white head. Sweet malt on the nose, taste is smooth, clean, sweet pale malt, simplistic much like a German kolsch I guess, but it's been a while since I've been in Koln to try the real thing.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Very dark gold, almost like unpolished brass. Almost clear with a touch of soapy head. Aroma is pretty vegetal: some sour grape and a touch of wet cardboard as well. Taste is sweet and refreshing although it is a bit saccharine in the finish. Not terrible but it's missing something. Maybe it's the umlaut.
