A dark & brooding winter beer using an original recipe, Recipe No 6 from the Joule’s Archive. Brewed with roasted malt delivering hints of toasted nut and roasted fruit. Complex, deep and satisfying.
A winter warmer with a gentle balance and heady finish, perfect for cold winters evenings.

Cask at Cross Keys, Chester Pours a very dark ruby red with a tight cream head. Nice and strong nose majoring on dark fruits. Frutiiness again in the mouth, with dark fruit and raspberries but also liquorice and toffee notes. Unexpectedly the finish is sweet and malty.

Taste of dark fruity malts, some soft blackcurrant, touch of liquorice, nice dark malts, very mellow soft roast, very soft hops, good flavour
Palate - Medium body, soft sweet, smooth texture. Finish of dark fruity malts, more dark fruits come through and a dab of chocolate.

Cask @ The Dolphin, Shrewsbury. Pours a dark brown/black with a nice creamy head. Aroma is sweet caramel with a lovely, luscious creamy chocolate fudge flavour with vague hints of coffee. A thick body and a delight to drink. If only I had a glass of this to go with my Christmas pudding this year!

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Crown Inn, Oakengates on 6th Dec 13. Lovely deep, dark brown look, with an off-white head. The nose was a warm malt molasses affair with caramel leading the way, the taste followed along in the same vain, this is a semi-sweet caramel flavoured beer with a mini-hop finish. I like malty, sweeter brews and this sat nicely in that style. The body was richer and heavier than the 4.8% ABV indicated, a very pleasant Winter Warmer.
