Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver; 8.9% ABV
Dark brown colour, medium head. It has nice notes of sweet chocolate, malt, possibly better in the aroma than in the flavour, because the booze is slightly too evident and as a consequence the body seems thin; indeed, as announced, the bourbon is quite powerful.
Good, and decently priced. I'd sip on more bottle of this.

500ml on Alex's deck. Appearance: brown with a tan head. Aroma: sweet, dark fruits, toffee, caramel, bourbon barrel. Taste: along the same lines, maybe a bit harsh aftertaste. Overall: pretty impressive for the Category 12, quite 👍 local stuff.

Bottle. This bourbon barrel quad (four different distilleries, so it says on the label) has a ruddy brown colour and is opaque. The aroma shows both an assertive bourbon character with a touch of vanilla, but also a lot of the quad, in particular a deep fruitiness and date-like malt quality. On the palate, the rich malts jump to the fore, then the fruitiness - pears, dates, maybe some stone fruit emerges. The bourbon, tannins and alcohol come in more in finish, not only adding complexity but rounding out the palate. The fermentation is clean - just esters - and there's enough bitterness even before the alcohol and tannins kick in. I don't think I was expecting this beer to be so well-made. I'm impressed.

On tap. Pours brown with moderate head. Aromas of brown sugar, caramel malts and light bourbon. Flavors of woody bourbon, rich toasted malts, raisins, and candi sugar. Maybe a bit of metallic Belgian yeast to claim a big Quad. Very nice.

Deep copper brown with a rich beige head. Bourbon, candied sugars and some dark fruit. Taste is much the same, not overtly complex, but very well crafted and balanced. Quite like it.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out gentle smoke, some cocoa, caramel, some dark fruits, and bourbon. Flavour is very lush, with dark dried fruits, cocoa, vanilla and bourbon. Sweet and complex - the bourbon works really well here. One of the best from C12.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Dark brown black with light beige head. Lots of bourbon with some chocolate and mild vanilla and coffee. Liking the bourbon barrel quality, but it does take away from the Belgian quad quality a bit - approved nonetheless. Certainly an anomaly, especially in BC.
